Well I remember when the 7.62x39's were announced. And every dealer thought they were big money. Then..... Noone liked the plain wood and they sat. You could get them for $800 or a little less. To ask 2K like On Gunbroker for one of these 1V's is disgusting. I hope they sit.

Whittaker guns had one on the rack on Thursday of last week. Can't remember the price, maybe $1100-1200 ish? It had the best wood I have seen on a new ruger no 1 in quite a while

I saw one on the rack at the LGS. Some one had dropped it on the muzzle on concrete or took a rough file to about 1/4" of it. The sticker price was $1299. The wood was about 1/8" proud where the butt stock meets the receiver. It felt like they hit the stock with some 100 grain sandpaper and squirted on some water-downed stain with an airgun and sent it out the door. I really want one but if their attention to detail is this bad on the outside, I wonder what the innards are like? There were also some scratches on the barrel near the receiver that went down under the forend.

Not exhibition grade, but better than I've seen on anything we've received in a while.

I'm thinking it will let me do some interesting things load-wise. Bullets that aren't well suited to AR's for example. Plenty enough for our deer, too.

It's certainly interesting looking. I wonder if it might be circassian edit to add, I'm scratching my head over how to scope it

You did GOOD!!! That's the best wood I've seen in 2015 . Hope there's more out there. I have a RSI in 6.5x55 ordered.

edit to add, I'm scratching my head over how to scope it connect the factory ring lower half to the slot in the block, tighten the screw, and ... whaddya mean that's not what you meant? I don't recall having any issues with eye relief requiring extension rings on a #1 though it seems like quite a few people have. A semi heavy barreled single shot isn't the right choice for jumping jackrabbits in the sage so big FOV isn't real necessary. ... I'd go with a Leupold 6.5-20X. It'd be suitable for pretty near anything I'd use that rifle for. Plus it's long enough that if you need to shift it a bit to adjust eye relief, it'll work. Tom

Yeah, was gonna put a Loopey fixed 12x on it, but it will need offset rings and they don't make stainless offset rings. I'll probably rob the 6.5-20x40 VX-iii off the Princess and try that, at least to see how it shoots. But the finish doesn't match. Which is traumatic

I checked last night, and found a 75gr Amax touches the lands when loaded to an OAL of 2.428". There's plenty of bullet inside the case neck, so I think the throat is well designed to take heavier VLD style bullets. I have a couple of good AR's, but aside from looks, this rifle adds some interesting functionality to the .223.

Just picked her up! Lipsey's Stainless Steel Special Ruger #1V 223 Rem 26" bull barrel rifled 1:8 twist. Looks a lot better in "person"

Pulled the Loopey 6.5-20-40 VX-iii off the .22-250, mounted it on the K1V, bore sighted on the range, and it suddenly turned erratic on me, tossing shots around. The adjustable objective has to be spun to infinity, to get it to focus at 100 yds. Back to Loopey I went ahead and kept shooting it, to fireform brass. It settled down some and was doing groups of 1 to 1.5" at 100 yards, and seemed to do about equally well with 69gr TMK's and 55gr TTSX's. I'll work on it more next weekend, and slap a 12x fixed M8 on it.

An update is I swapped a Loopey fixed 12x onto it, and it shoots patterns with the 75gr Amax, just like the last scope. I checked cartridge weight & concentricity and all seems fine. Gonna check the twist, and tinker with forend bedding. It does better with 55gr TTSX, will put 4 in 7/8" then toss the next one 1½" away. So I'm still working on it

I get a 1 in 9" twist, when I check the twist. hmmm... This past weekend I tried 3 new bullets with Varget, in Lapua match brass. It liked the Berger 77gr OTM Tactical best. 77 Sierra TMK's were okay, and 69gr TMK's shot well. I may the first person to ever shoot 77gr Bergers in a Ruger #1 but they work well in this limited session.

Probably try to smack a turkey with the 77 Bergers, then work some more with Varget & 55gr TTSX and 60gr Partitions.

Ruger confirmed to me today that they are a 1 in 9" twist. Darn it! And here I was about to try to sell you a boatload of 90gr Sierras and 80gr Nosler CC. Ed

Mine showed up yesterday. I'm not happy if the twist is only 1:9 I was planning on using a bunch of 80 gr. Bullets I have, I'll just have to try them.

I'll be curious to see what others report. Mine is around 1 MOA with the 77gr Tipped Matchkings, which are almost as long as the 75 Amax. At least here near sea level, bullets have to be about 1.03" long or shorter, to shoot well.

I am really interested in one of these as I've always wanted a No 1, but I'm not sure it's worth the $1400+ it'd be after taxes/FFL fees. Especially if they cannot shoot 75 grain bullets.
