I was out shooting with some friends yesterday and finally got around to sighting in my 336 with Williams Receiver sight. I had read here and elsewhere that with new receiver sights that a taller front bead may be necessary. I was satisfied with the grouping (below pic). In fact I was ecstatic! [img:left] [/img] However it was about a foot high. In the below pic I was aiming at the center of the two calendars on the bottom target. Yes calendars work well and I'm a cheap redneck!! Specifically where the nail hole is and the group is by the word "April" in the top right target. [img:left] [/img] I figured I would need to be able to lower POI but wasn't prepared for how much. I searched aftermarket sights and Skinner sights kept popping up. Anyone have experience with them? Any suggestions on different brands? How high should I go?

Don't know if it matters or not but the gun was made in 1948. I would like a front sight that doesn't take away from the age of the rifle with something too "modern looking" if that makes sense.

Search for a Marbles high front sight. They come in ivory and brass if I remember right.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

80, My gunsmith put a front sight on my 1894 .25-20.. If I remember correctly it was shooting high also.. But when I got the little rifle back it had a very fine bead for the front sight.. Much smaller than the original.. I loved it.. I have thought of putting a finer bead on all of my lever guns, but never got around to it..

Brownells will have what ya need. They can help with figuring out what height new sight to get. I put a Marbles flat face gold bead on my Marlin 1895 .45-70 after I added a receiver sight. Works like a champ.
