I'd put the CZ 452 or 455 above everything else in that price range.

Based on limited experience with 3 each of various CZs and 77/22s, I'd say either will do 3/4" with good hollow point hunting ammo and around 1/2" or better with good SS ammo that they like. Both can benefit from easy-to-do trigger mods. For hunting, it's a wash IMHO, but if teensy groups from the bench is your main requirement, CZs will likely edge the Rugers a mite, and for less money.

I still like the Rugers better, for the handier safety, flush magazines, and availability of stainless. My RSI is as pretty as a kitten, and the full-length stock balances it out perfectly.

I've only had experience with two 77/22 heavy barrels, but neither shot quite as well as most CZ's I've had experience with.

another one to throw in there that tends to fly under the radar these days is the Zastava MP 22 R, it was also imported for a time and sold as the Remington model 5.
for 250.00 it will hang with the others all day.

I don't know what the price is today on a Biathlon-7-2-KO by Izhmash but I bought mine from a high priced LGS for around $350 about 10 years ago. I added a Bushnell 3X9 scope on it and it is amazingly accurate in a sporter type model. The recess crown on the front of the barrel is about 3/4" deep and the barrel is free floated. Trigger is about 2 lbs. and with bulk ammo it will go .75" at 75 yards and with target grade iammo t will go to .50" at 75 yards providing the presence of a good shooter and the absence of any wind.

The toggle bolt takes some getting used to, and it would be a fantastic gun for plinking and squirrel hunting.

I use it sparingly as most of the jack rabbits I hunt are big time runners and the tricked out 10/22 with 25 shot mags is the ticket.

Another vote for the RAR.

Not taking anything away from the CZ or the 77/22.....I have shot those as well and enjoy them just fine, but for the money it's hard to beat the American.

As mentioned earlier, keep an eye on Whitaker's. They sell at a good price, too. Bud's sells at a $60-70 premium from Whitaker's, but allow you to "Make an Offer".

OK guys... im toying with buying a 455 and selling my heavy barrel 77/22.

Are 455's the ones that need special scope mounts? (metric?)
Where do you find magazines? and how much?

What should I sell a very clean SS target grey barrel laminate stock 77/22 for?

Yes, the 455's have 11mm dovetails. I use Burris Signature rimfire rings. They come with clamps for both 11mm and 3/8" dovetails.

The 455 magazines can be ordered directly from CZ's website as well as numerous other places. If you're local gun shop sells CZ's, they can order the magazines as well.

Don't sell until you try the 455 first.

CZ makes a damn fine .22, also seen a couple Savage Mark IIs that will shoot right with anything and You may also want to consider the Zastava CZ-99(better known around here as the Remington Model 5)...

Unless you need the money to finance the CZ, ( my usual dilemma), I'd hang onto that 77/22. The older ones have slip-fit barrels that can be replaced with high-end aftermarket ones pretty easily and, given the current marketing mindset at Ruger, they could get the axe at any time, instantly increasing the value or yours.

Just a thought.

I have no interest in this ad, nor do I know the seller but am simply passing along what appears to be a decent deal on a CZ 455.

Mines at least 15 years old so is that an slip fit? Can a person look that up by serial number?

If your m77/22 is 15 years old it is a slip fit model. As I recall, November of 2009 is when the change over began. I can't recall the serial # range of the change over but a search on rimfire central or ruger forums should yield your answer if someone on here doesn't chime in with the info.

The slip-fits have a clamping v-block like a 10/22 that holds the barrel in.

Enabler!!!!

I just bought one and a spare mag.

OK guys... what kind of scope rings do I need for a 452?
Burris ring?
Leupold Rings?
I have a couple 2x7's to put on this, but I may spring for a Leopold rim fire scope to really match this. (4x or 2x7)

My 2x7's are an older gloss redfield tracker, a gloss leupold vx1or2, and I may have a mmatte black 2x7 also.

Now that you have made me buy it... help me accessorize please.

Go over to the CZ forum at rimfirecentral. They have a sticky about nothing but mounts. There is a sponsor there that sells an adapter so you can use the Burris Signature Zee rings if you want and several other options.

There's also a sticky about trigger improvement options. I did the Yo-Dave kit for $20 and I'm very pleased.

The 2-7's would be wonderful for hunting but I like a little more magnification to wring every bit of accuracy out at 50 yards. I like to be able to center the cross hairs on a bullet hole. I use the Leupold VX2 4-12 AO fine duplex on mine. I've shot flies off the paper at 50 yards.
