We have a few Tundra Swans that migrate to the farm we hunt. By far the biggest population is east of us, but we get enough to hunt.
I tried field hunting the big wheat fields, but we always have a hard time getting them in for some reason or another despite the huge flocks we see elsewhere. This year I had a new plan and picked up 1/2 dozen floater decoys. We could easily pay an outfitter for an almost guaranteed hunt, but no way. Part of the fun is a game plan!
It worked. We used our voices to call them and had them come in to the floaters on the pond. We had a blast hunting these magnificent birds! Despite a few misses (HA!) my son was ecstatic getting his first swan.
