I have a "thing" for the nostalgic look of Unertl scopes on vintage heavy barrel varmint rifles. Anyone else like em?

Top to bottom: .22-250, .223, .243, and a .225

Wow great collection. When I was a kid a friend had a Swift on a Mauser action with an Unertl, always was kind of my dream gun.

Not an Unertl but I've got a Litschert on an early 130 prefix No.1V .25-06

okie, cool scopes.. Love 'em, but I never owned one.. When I really had some $ to buy good stuff in the 60's, the Lyman and Leupold scopes had hit the market in 8-10 xx.. I never picked up one of those old scopes.. Beautiful from a time gone by..

Yep.

On a TD Savage 99, I think.

Desertoakie: "I" like em!
Currently I have just two Unertl's on Rifles.
I have a crystal clear Unertl BV-20 (straight 20 power) mounted cleanly on a custom heavy barreled Sako L-46, in caliber 222 Remington Magnum.
I only bring this Rifle out on special occasions anymore.
Like on nostalgia motivated Prairie Dog Hunts and to take a Rock Chuck or two hereabouts.
My other Unertl scope is a 10 power 1 1/2" Target (mounted in the factory target bases) on a mint condition pre-64 (February 1956) Winchester Model 70 Varmint. This Rifle is in caliber 243 Winchester.
I have not shot this Rifle in decades.
I admit it, "I" think the Unertl's look really cool to me.
But the main reason I have gone through the trouble and expense of obtaining them over the years is because of their distortion free and crystal clear images. I am susceptible to eye strain and its NEVER a problem when using a Unertl!
Over the years I have probably owned 12 other Unertl Rifle scopes.
And speaking of crystal clarity I have a Unertl spotting scope with two different powered eyepieces - these are also WONDERFUL optics.
One of my close friends and shooting buddies owns a Unertl "Team Spotting Scope" and this huge thing is just a work of art and a joy to use at the range.
I would LOVE to own one of these but they are just cost prohibitive, to me anyway.
Sad that the Unertl Company went defunct.
When I was a young man and bought a new Colony Varmint Rifle the first thing I would do was go find a 12 or a 15 power Unertl Ultra-Varmint and go about getting it mounted up.
Never had malfunction one - with ANY of the Unertl products I have owned.
Great looking double brace of Rifles and scopes you have there.
Good for you.
Hold into the wind

My Father 'chuck gun from back in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s were all equipped with Lyman Targetspots and Unertls. Sometimes, he used Winchester 70 in 243 to hunt in both NH and VT from a stand that was in NH, but allowed for shots across the Connecticut River into VT. When I lived in Keats, KS, I had a 700V in 22-250 with 10x Unertl Vulture in "de-horned" mounts that we used to snipe coyotes on and around Fort Riley.

Internet movie firearms database says it is in fact a Ross 1910, chambered in 280 ross

It looks like an M10 sporting rifle, probably in 280 Ross.

I got a Unertl 15X Ultra Varmint in the 1960's and used it both on my Remington 40X 22 LR gallery rifle in the winter time league matches at 50' indoors and on my Winchester M70 Varmint 243 for woodchuck and other varmint hunting.

I still have that scope and use it.

Not a Unertl but a Lyman Super Target 15x with Premier ret on a Savage 99EG Salesman Sample in 300 Savage. Late 1930s vintage.

Target blocks holes on receiver and barrel are factory on this gun. Took me awhile to find the blocks. Still have to sight in and stretch it out a little. That should be complete in a few weeks. Have thought about getting this setup for awhile now.

I got this Stevens from a friend last year. The Unertl has the dehorned rear ring. I have been trying to find a micrometer rear ring, 7/8", every since. If anyone knows where I might find one at a reasonable cost, let me know.

Love the rifle and the Unertl!
