I've been looking at one I'm trying not to buy, seems like a good deal on a nice looking shooter grade rifle. PM if you'd like to take a look.

How many fwt 06's does one man need????
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Ha ha.... I'm glad I have mine. I know that 1 rifle personally sent many good/great 30-06 rifles packing...

what is a decent price for a featherweight in good shooter condition? Need more details.... Many forms of "shooter" out there... Example: 1. % of original bluing. 2. Does it still retain the original front and rear sights? 3. Low comb stock or montecarlo and how original (recoil pad installed)? 4. Year of manufacture? 5. Any extra drilled and tapped holes? 6. Has it been re-barrled? 7. Overall condition?

I currently have a Pre 64 243 and 270 Fwt. Both are in excellent original condition. Both are dead nuts accurate, especially the 243. Though having a 270 Fwt is mandatory for me.
Have no interest in the 30-06, but for some reason have always looked at the 264. This doesn't make much sense because the 264 Fwt only has a 22 inch barrel which means you lose out on what makes the 264 advantageous over the 270. Note: I have a 264 Westerner with the 26 inch barrel. It is my long range rifle. I have shot small pumpkins 600+ with the help from a 6.5-20 Zeiss with turrets.
The 308 and 358 Fwt would be looked at, but $ value aside, I would not want either over my 243 and 270.
In conclusion, I am complete with pre-64 Fwts.
For post 64s, there is only one for me and I have it and love it. Post 64 1980s 7x57 Fwt. I had a chance at a NIB old stock 1980s 257 Roberts Fwt before, but passed on it.

what is a decent price for a featherweight in good shooter condition? Seems they bring $1000-$1500 these days.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

By shooter I mean all original but with normal wear. I know some are stuck on certain year models but I'm not, as long as its pre 64. It's hard enough to find them in my neck of the woods, especially featherweights.

hillbill, the rifle I linked sold for $749, which was a good deal for sure. At $850 still worth buying and at $950 starting to push it a little. You'll pay a premium for a fwt with the buttplate still on it. At the end of the day I'd not let $100 stop me from buying a pre 64 M70 that I want, rarely is buying one a mistake.

By shooter I mean all original but with normal wear. I know some are stuck on certain year models but I'm not, as long as its pre 64. It's hard enough to find them in my neck of the woods, especially featherweights. Fair enough. However, an all original specimen is pretty desirable and collectable. A "shooter" is one with a recoil pad installed and refinished stock.. It's getting harder and harder to find one that hasn't been cut down and recoil pad installed. The prices of these rifles is all over the place. I've managed to buy them cheap enough to make money or break even if I re-sell them. Depends on who I sell them to. . I have ran across some beat up "all original" 30-06 fwt's and one in particular still haunts me. I could have bought it for $700.00 and it still had the aluminum butt plate. The main thing about the rifle that made it ugly was the finish was flaking off. I know now that I should have jumped on it. It would have been the perfect candidate for a McMillan stock upgrade.... My particular 30-06 cost me $800.00: My buddy bought this 308 fwt back in 2009 for $500.00: This is a good example of a "shooter". The front sight had been sweated off and it was glass bedded. At $500.00 you can't go wrong buying a good ol pre 64 fwt. We figured this one would be the perfect candidate for a Mcmillan hunters compact: This is a "shooter", but a damn good one at that....

I'd sure like to find a nice shooter quality pre -64 FWT in 308. Seem to be be few offered with pads, but I'd like an original LOP & BP.
