I'm thinking about getting this one.

I'm not a big survival guy but I do need a decent small axe to take camping and such. I would rather have something a bit better than what's available in the box stores. 40 years ago you could buy a good axe anywhere but not so much now.

I have no experience with Hultafors, but I have the same pattern axe made by Lennart Pettersson of Gransfors Bruks. I bought it in Sweden and flew back with it strapped to the side of my pack in 1998. It is a beautiful tool and a fine souvenir. It's not something that I would have ordered sight-unseen. I selected mine and a broad axe after handling numerous. Each is a bit unique, as they are hand made and bear the maker's initials. I'm not sure if this is the case with Hultafors. Gransfors Bruks Axes are kind of like Cooper Rifles, you'd prefer to see the actual rifle you are buying rather than just buying one blindly by model and specification out of a dealer's inventory. Each is unique in its forging, hafting and finishing. Not that this isn't true of every axe, but there is so much more detail and character in Swedish hand forged/and finished axes, that it becomes relevant. This is part of their charm.

If I bought the Husqvarna, it would have to the the 26" axe since they only offer it and a hatchet and carpenters axe. It's a lot cheaper but I read where several had broken and they refused to replace them after 30 days. I can buy the Hultafors from a retailer I trust and have done business with before. I think he would take care of an obvious defect.

I would love to have a Gransfors SFA but they have gone out of their freaking minds on their price.$270 for a big hatchet.

I can get the Hultafors for $100 shipped.

I wouldn't replace a hammer/axe/or shovel handle after 30 days either but buy what you want.....for me the Husky's as much as I want to pay for something to take on the occasional camping trip....if the handle breaks I'll replace it....they're only a few bucks....

I agree with you but it wasn't the handle that broke. The last 3 inches of the blade broke off the head. There was 3 or so that had broken in the same manner with no replacement. I saw pictures and it was not abuse.
