I have the opportunity to have a pocket knife made, would like a folder so it carries neatly.
Micarta scales, about 3-4 inches long when closed.
I had a fang shape that I didn't like and am looking for suggestions or what everyone likes to carry.
Some have said wharncliffe, others like drop points or clip points.
What's your favorite and why? I tend to use it for all sorts of everyday school teacher, father of 2 girls chores: box opening, fingernail cleaning, splinter removal, apple or pear cutting, whittling, etc.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Price range?

I like a slender clip point for general use because of its versatility.

It's a replacement for a faulty design and handle material that just didn't like this climate and cracked and came off.
Maker just asked me to clarify the following:
you need to pick steel....either high carbon 52100 or stainless cpm154, pattern, closed length, scale material, bolsters or shadow, shield and depending upon pattern the nail nick.....
I am not sure there is a price set, he's just honoring his work!
So what carbon:
Patrern:
Length: I am fine with a Swiss army tinker for everyday right now
Scale: probably micarta unless I learn of another better
Not sure what bolsters or shadow means
Shield is probably my thinking and may get it engraved with initials
Nail nick would depend on shape

I most commonly carry an automatic. The Piranha P1 is my favorite.

My favorite traditional folder:

It's a Menefee, blade about 2 7/8" and CPM 154 steel with swedges. The handle is yellow micarta with red liners. Perfect action and half stop. It has worked on squirrels, rabbits, dove, skinned coyotes, food prep in the kitchen, various miscellaneous cutting chores and used as a steak knife at restaurants. I like it...

I generally carry either the Kershaw Gentleman's folder -





or the CRKT Heiho assisted opening (took out the LAWKS feature and lightened up the spring a bit to where it's FAST) -



It's the top one in that pic, but has the same belt/pocket clip on the backside.

Along with an SAK (generally a Tinker or a Huntsman). That allows me to have all the "goodies" of an SAK, with a dedicated folder to do other things. A multi-tool has been known to take the place of the SAK, and if I every find the "right one", it might do so permanently.

Another good one to consider is the Kershaw Leek. I've also been eyeballing those folders from Moki, as one or two seem to be about right one of them especially seems to be a clone of the Gentleman's Folder.

No, they aren't customs, but they are very solid knives and if something happened to one, I can replace it very quickly and relatively inexpensively.

I like spear point Jack Knives with natural scales......

For a traditional folder, I really like a sod buster pattern.

Have a GEC bull buster I carry from time to time.

For a production knife that Kershaw is a real beauty. Limited production run for that model. I think I have to have one.

most of the time, I have a Spyderco folder with me. Delica probably gets the most carry time.

They are very, very nice. Kershaw hasn't made them in quite a while now, unfortunately.

+ 1 on the Leek. Be forewarned that the blade is a little thin at the tip and subject to bending with hard use. I dropped mine and the tip was damaged. They replaced it.

for a production folder, I carry a kabar dozier.



for $20, its a great use for everything knife.

use it cut up lunch when a plastic fork won't do, then split hose and scrap gaskets or skin a deer.

Lose or break, no big deal.

My all time fav-o-rite EDC folder is/was a converted Boker Full Auto Top Lock. (not speed lock)



Seem's, most time's I'm in a nine-line bind when I need some blade-assistance. Being left handed ain't the easiest in the assisted opening knife world. The release button on this top lock was just in the right place.

Used it multiple times a day for about 13 years before I lost it.




Prolly opened close to 3,000 Negra Modelo Beer bottles with it.

Fit my hand just rite!

My Boker Kalashnikov, is no-where near the Top Lock.

Mine is a 4064, been my edc for about 10 years.
Processed deer, fish, birds, hogs, open boxes.
Hell of a knife for 20 couple bucks.

I'm a fan of the spear point like on a Swiss Army knife I also like the sodbuster style pattern. The spear point cause it sharpens to the tip really well.

Spyderco Stretch 2. A fair sized blade in a reasonable size, light knife. May not be legal to carry for you, and definitely not for me in Maryland.

When I was a kid I loved an Easy-Opener Jack knife and I still have two.
These days It's either a Ka-Bar Dozier or a BladeTech.

That blade is gorgeous. Looks barlow shaped with a Swiss Army blade. Very nice pocket knife.
