My wife is currently planning a Spring trip to New Orleans and I'd like to get at least a half day of fishing in. Looking more for a walk-on, head boat type arrangement instead of a smaller charter.

I know there are a few head boats in Venice, which is about 1 1/2 hours away.

Thanks for the tips. I still haven't been able to find contact info for a head boat.
Cruiser, We are looking for a low budget outing. Although a redfish trip does sound like fun.

BTW: We will not be able to keep more than a few fillets that we could possibly cook on a throw-away grill. The trip plan includes tours in/around New Orleans and to the West (gotta' stop at the Tabasco factory). My son wants to tour a crawfish farm since he is a new fan of crawfish boiling.

Not my trip, but this is what I'd be doing.

If you decide to do the inshore thing (would be my recommendation):

I've been fishing with Capt. Charlie for 12+ years - both family/friends and entertaining customers. Great fishing. Nice, clean lodge you can rent (with a grill included).

Don't get stuck on Reds - they're fun to catch, but the speckled trout are better eating. You can catch plenty of both...

Not a big fan of the walk-on's, now that the the snapper fishing is destroyed it's not what it use to be.

C9,
I agree; reds are fun to catch but specks are GREAT to eat. You can also expect to pick up some flounder and black drum.
My favorite fishing; have gone out of Golden Meadow, Cocodrie and Buras many times.

Port Fourchon...

Absolutely hammered the specs and reds for three days last week.

Nicest people you will ever meet.

I've fish with Aaron Pierce the last 4 years. Look him up.
