Looks like someone spied an F-150 with what appears to be a diesel engine. Here is a link to the story with a video of the truck in question. I'd be surprised if Ford does it, but it's an interesting proposition.

a 3 litre diesel seems far too small for a truck the size and work potential of an F150

How can they suggest that 22 city and 29 highway with an aluminum body truck and a 3 liter diesel, when a 5.9 cummins in my 8000b truck will get 20 highway and in the high teens for average driving?

Seems like that cummins in the Nissan is the better option, it's 5 liters. in a similar sized truck?

Every new design is for mileage, not working ability. They have to meet government regulations so utility is going to pot. The new ones like this are for suburbanites who need to haul their golf clubs.

According to friends that work at fords, '17 the f150 gets a diesel, '18 the ranger gets reintroduced, and '19 the bronco makes its debut

The ram 1500 ecodiesel is 3 liter's also, this would be targeting the same market. It's not for work, it's an economical grocery getter/light duty pickup. Don't try to equate it to a 2500/3500 with a cummins, think of it more as a VW jetta diesel with a bed.

1/2 ton pickups with small economical diesels would be a great idea if the EPA hadn't made them so complex with their emissions mandates. 15 years ago I'd have loved a 3-4 liter turbodiesel in a half ton truck that got 30 MPG. They were simple, reliable, fuel efficient and diesel was $.20 a gallon cheaper than gas. Today they're too choked with emissions stuff to be reliable, don't get the fuel economy they used to, and diesel is more expensive.

That's exactly why I decided against trading in my 2004 Cummins for a new one. Just put the money needed into refurbishing everything including the body work and paint.

That 5.9 litre has at least a decade of great service left!
