What better way to spend the last day of January when it's 50 degrees out? Took the fowler for a little stroll in the woods...

It was built by Danny Caywood and is a 62 smoothbore / 20 gauge Englis fowler, with a rear sight added and jug choked to modified.

Nicely done and a beautiful photo!

Good fowlers usually range anywhere from about a grand to as much as you want to pay. Most builders can turn them out in a few weeks if the engraving and carving is kept within reasn.

I looked at his website, but the only ones I found prices on cost more than I paid for any new car I bought up to 1994.
Does that jug choke hurt accuracy with a RB?

There are several makers out there that sell for less. Plus you can usually find them used... The jug choke doesn't hurt accuracy at all. I can hit targets at 100 yards with no problems with it.

I was going through my ML tub the other day and came upon a bunch of flints, some machine-cut agates, but mostly old English ones recovered from a shipwreck, and my mind started working. You know how it goes; can't let a bunch of good flints go to waste! Might have to do something about that in the spring.

Nice looking flintlock. I have mundane NWT smoothbore that I hunt Turkey with each Spring.
