I tried selling this awhile back, really glad i didn't now. It has a heavy 22 inch Griffin and Howe barrel and according to Paul Chapman at G&H, its likely an Al Biesen, S.A. Leonard, or Leonard & Hyde. It has a beautiful single set trigger. While it's a bit heavy, I think it may go Whitetail hunting with me this fall when I get back home to Montana.

Nice vintage piece. Have you looked at the inletting or under the buttplate for the maker's name?

I think I may have pulled it out of the stock but I don't recall if there were any markings. I didn't pull the butt plate off, but I certainly will when I get home.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I did remove the stock, but my focus was on the bottom of the barrel. It is marked there with the serial number of the receiver.

First time I have seen another rifle with the same pattern of "jeweling" that my rifle has. The linked rifle is a Niedner-Shelhamer.

That effect was/is attained with a burnishing tool, and serves to hold oil on the steel surface as well as for the aesthetics.

Nice classic gun. Looked at your Photo Bucket account, is that your Colt SP1? Isn't it odd that we are now looking at AR15's as classic guns?

It is one of the many guns I wish I hadn't sold. It went down the road so I could get something else, probably a pre64 model 70. I did replace it with a XM-16e1 clone, original parts built on the correct style Nodak Spud lower. It is crazy, but they are indeed classics.

That's a nice gun in a great cartridge. If I had seen it for sale it would have been at my place now:) I have a Pre64 M70 in 250 Savage and it's a very accurate rifle as I'm sure this is also. Good shooting with it.

I actually had it in a popular gun store on consignment with the scope for $2400 for over 6 months. Now I wouldn't part with it for double! I have 200 rounds of Jamison factory ammo that will be waiting to get shot up when I get home. I bet she's a shooter.

If you don't reload I'd strongly suggest you do. Factory ammo is very hard to find and if you do find it it's very expensive. Hornaday is going to have brass available sometime later this year so I've been told.
