Who has used them and what do you think of them? I realize their effectiveness is dependent on the r-value of the pad......

That's what I use. I like them for a couple of reasons. First, can't roll off the pad. Second, I like the extra room most of them provide. I am usually a hot sleeper, but I went one step cooler in the rating after getting cold in a 15 degree Encampment in about 20 degree weather. And I was inside a tent with an insulated air pad. I was able to trade the bag for a 0 degree farwell. (Great service all the way around. BA would have traded through the mail, but REI did it over the counter.) I am not out nearly as much as others on this forum but a big thumbs up from me on BA sleep systems.

I second 338! I've had mine for over a decade and really, really like the pad/sleeve system. I'm mostly a side sleeper and this helps. I'm not tall, but use a tall for the extra girth.

I bought a BA Encampment 15 degree bag last summer and love it so far. I move around alot when I sleep and not rolling off the pad is a God send for me. I also like the fact that they are a little roomier than a traditional mummy bag. The coldest I've slept in it so far was about 25-30 degrees using an old Therm-a-rest Ridge Rest and was plenty warm.

I sleep great but in Alaska last year we had snow in July and I got cold. I have a 20 degree and had to layer up to sleep comfortably. I never heard of BA trading bags...PM sent, thx
