Can anyone help me with this? I'm trying to sell it in the classifieds, without any luck. Is my price in line?

Priced at $1050.00 shipped

Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter

Started it's life as a SM but has since had some upgrades.

New SS 26" barrel with less than 25 rounds thru it.

Squared and trued
Pillar and glassed bedded, free floated barrel.
All metal is Teflon coated.

Sitting in a Boyds JRS classic stock with checkering cut in it.

All work was completed by MGArms in Houston TX. http://www.mgarmsinc.com

Wow - sounds like a deal .

Is that even US$ replacement price for the M70 ?
What is SM ?

If you still haven't sold it, Come Hunting in Alberta or Saskatchewan this fall, and we can work something out. ;-)

With the Loonie tanking, a Canajun hunt might be very attractive.

I figured the price is a little to high and it's a little to customized for most people's liking.

Just thought I would see what everyone else thought.

My opinion is drop the price till it sells or use it for hunting.

So it's a CroMoly rcvr that has been teflon coated ?

The pics seem to be quite different colors on the scope.
What generation of 2.5-8x36 is that ? VX-3, VX-III, Vari-X

Better put the price UP

Bigger and better pics might help your rifle sell, possibly even at its current price.

Also, you might consider listing just the barreled action at, say, $850 and sell the stock separately.

Yes, it's just a blued action with a stainless barrel that has been Teflon coated.

Scope is a VariX III 2.5-8x36 matte finish.

Price won't go down anymore than it is. I'll let it sit in the back of the safe until my kids sell it when I'm gone.

If I could figure out how to load larger pictures to this website i would.

Thanks for the info so far

You won't like this, but I think you will be lucky to get $800. Nothing wrong with the rifle, it's the economy. If it was priced right it would have sold. Nice rifle, but you have to find someone with exactly the same taste as you. Like many things, when you customize you don't get your money back. Applies to guns, cars or motorcycles. Put it back in the safe.

I completely agree with it, it's customized and may be a little too custom for most that are just looking for rifle.

Thanks for the input.

Photobucket is the way to go not uploads.

I'd find the price you're fine with and keep bumping it up till the right person comes along.

Just a thought I'll throw out there, your rifle may well be worth what you're asking but for myself a stainless bbl on a blued action just doesn't make sense. To me the advantage of stainless is the "all weather" characteristics and if the receiver is blued, that advantage is moot.

I also agree with someone above that good, close up, in focus pictures sell rifles...

Good luck with the sale

Better pictures have been added to photobucket with a link to them on the ad.

I agree with you all stainless would have been the way to go but this the action that was available when it was rebuilt.

Is that a new SS Winchester take-off barrel that has been teflon coated, or the original CroMo teflon coated, or ?

The action needs lubing either way.

It's a new Winchester take off barrel that was Teflon coated.

I wiped it all dry before taking any pics so there wouldn't be smudges in the pictures.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the info, I meant that either a stainless, or a CroMo rcvr would require some lube.

The new pics are great, and I do hope you get your $$ because you probably have more than that tied up in it.

Rifle 285 this month, has an article by John Barsness
( MuleDeer here) that pretty well sums up this situation.
The current economic climate doesn't help any.

Elk rifles are seasonal beasts, and there is a good list of improvements assembled there. I especially like the laminated JRS stock with that Teflon dirt ? color.

Wishing you the best of luck. personally, I'd sit on it for a while at your price rather than make drastic price reductions. This cooling off period would of course, also give me the opportunity to contemplate reaming it out to .338-375 Ruger/Campfire or going whole hog, and installing the long magazine and going .340 Bee ! Hmmmm

One last flurry of questions on your build :

Total Round Count ?
Was the original barrel .338Win too. Just curious.

Trigger ? stock winchester I believe, What weight ?

Cheers from the frozen North

Thanks for the info. I'll look into that article. Price is about as low as it's going to be. It'll sit in the back of the safe and the kids can use it one day.

This barrel has less than 20 rounds in it. The Teflon coat is a dark reddish brown color.

Originally purchased it new in '98 as a .338 wm shot that barrel out and finally replaced it with this one. Original trigger. Original stock was a black synthetic Winchester stock.

Weight as it sits in this stock with the leupold scope on it is 8 lb 15 oz.

Enjoy your snow!

The price too high, weight too much, and not saying how it shoots. Why did you only shoot 20 rounds down range.
