After talking about suppressors with Deflave last year I created an NFA Trust with my 3 adult offspring and I on it. I first got a Harvester .30 that I now use for hunting.

Last summer my first grandchild, a boy, was born. Of course I'd bought him a 10/22 for his pre-natal Christmas of '14 but came up with a better plan for the first youth rifle he would fire.

I decided to do an NFA Form 1 to SBR the first firearm I purchased as an adult nearly 38 years ago for Mason's first gunpowder experience.

I bought a plain Jane 10/22 Carbine at a gun store in Red Bluff, CA in June '78, when I was 18 and in the Air Force. Seems like it was $69 plus tax.

Plain back then, however, meant a walnut stock with good figure. I haven't babied it in the decades since though it has been cleaned at least twice while putting tens of thousands of rounds through it plinking and killing schtuff.

Phase one will be shortening it so a front sight can be placed between the barrel band and the tip of the stock then threaded for a can in front of the wood.

The metal will be either Cerakoted titanium, satin black or Robar NP3,and the stock will be refinished with high grade oil.

Will probably get a steel, non-slip replacement buttpad.

It'll be an ideal truck gun for short-range work and will get a shorter stock for it, and possibly a LW threaded barrel, for my little feller when it comes time to move up from a Red Ryder.

Step 1: Sent the form 12/28 and the check cleared about a week later. Sent it to the friendly folks at Veritas Machining LLC in Michigan to get the maker and town engraved.

Sent it to them last Friday and got it back last night:

The barrel is with a co-worker who is a skilled machinist for the trim and thread.

Trying to decide if I should add a Timney or other trigger group.

Was fixin to buy a pistol suppressor, but decided to do some Form 1s over next few months til the trust changes go into effect in July.

My old Narcotics shotgun I bought after a department trade will be next, then an AR receiver and ... Maybe my Guide Gun will get lopped to end of mag tube. Hate the damn ports!
