I've purchased hinged trigger guards in the past from both Numrich and Sarco(pretty sure its the same guard) with the floorplate release in the bow. Have had problems on higher recoil rifles with them opening on recoil. Does anyone know a good fix for this(other than spending several times as much on a different guard)?

you can put a little spring loaded button in the button that is already there just like David Miller does on his rifles. that would take care of it.

Do you have a picture of one?

Try replacing the floor plate release spring with a stiffer one. My friend had the same problem with a Ruger M77 in .458 Win Mag. The stiffer spring in the release cured his recoil problems.

How is the overall quality of that piece Tim? Been thinking of ordering one since the price isn't that bad.

They aren't really too bad. Could use a little polishing...but I'm having all the rifles I would use them on parkerized(black) so not a big concern. I heavier spring and a little elbow grease could save a guy over $400...

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. I would coat it anyway so it sounds like it will work just fine.

I got several from Sarco or somewhere similar in the 1980s and didn't have any trouble with them, even on an 8.5 or so lb. .338-378. They told me they were for a commercial production rifle (Parker-Hale) with Mauser action. Is this the same one you are discussing? BTW, I still have one with the box cut off, intending to use a custom sheet metal longer box with it (which I also have). Anyone need it?

I've not been impressed with the fit/finish on those units at all.

I had Mike McCabe contour the TG FN-style and install a stiff push button release on a non-lock screw unit and it's beautiful as well as functional.

You can also find a take-off FN unit on GB & EBay occasionally. They're the best of both worlds if you don't have a smith who'll do the recontour and don't want to buy a top shelf unit.

The unit Numrich is offering today isn't the old PH model.

Steel Mark X floorplate, trigger guard, integral magazine box weighed 223 g. Aluminum Parker-Hale floorplate/trigger guard with .035" sheet steel magazine box weighed 105 g, for a savings of 118 g or 4.16 oz.
