Hello, in search of a Savage NRA 19 Magazine for my .22 bolt action rifle that was handed down to me (50) years ago. Have searched e-bay and many gun sites. Am on several waiting list, will take a re-manufactured vs an original if needed. Thanks very much for reading, greatly appreciated.

The early 19NRA used a mag that also fit the 23A. Later models, I think, used the same mag as the 23AA. The early mags do turn up on ebay and GB on a fairly regular basis and usually cost about 100, give or take. The best way to get a new mag is to get one that's already attached to a 23A. Keep looking, they are out there.

23AA mag will not fit a 1919 model(s), 1922 model or 23A.
23AA mags work in the M-19 (same action as the AA)

Frequently 23A mags were lost as there is no positive hold in and a slight bump on the magazine can cause them to drop out.

They are VERY hard to find. If you have a really nice 23A, the easiest way to get a mag. would be to find a beater 23A with its magazine.

The aftermkt ones I have seen were pretty bad.

Collected and exhibited these neat small bore Savage Centerfires back in the 80-90s , had some neat ones.

Only reading glasses than. (chuckle). 44-40 experimental 1 of 1 at lower right)

23-A mags are very common and show up on eBay consistently, as do later curved unmarked magazines for the 23-AA & late 19's. There were three different stampings used on the early magazines (which are straight). The later curved magazines that are stamped on one side "MOD 23AA/MOD 1933NRA" and "SAVAGE/22LR' on the bottom are harder to find. Triple-K still lists replacement magazines for both, but the early one showed 'out of stock' last time I looked. Do you know which version your rifle is? I am assuming your gun is a rimfire and not in 22 Hornet.

ADDED - Triple-K now appears to have some in stock but they do not picture the magazine, the gun pictured is a late Model 19 which would take the curved magazine, but the description list a size that suggests it's the early one - length 2.25. It should be the same magazine as a 23-A but it has a different number but lists the same size.

23-A magazine

The later curved magazines for the 1933 & later guns were used in a lot of models, in the description for these it says " 19 (not NRA 19), 23AA (not NRA 23A)" -

There also is a 10 shot version -

Don't try and buy after market magazines on eBay, here are a couple Triple_K's that sold recently -
Triple-K for the 1903
Actually for the 23-A/1919NRA & probably will not fit a 1903 very well
Wait until these are back in stock - 23A aftermarket mag

If you are patient and watch, you can sometimes get an original magazines for about the same price as these aftermarket ones.
Some originals that I was watching that recently sold (not at bargain price though - so I didn't get any) -

Yup it's a rimfire. 1919,1922,23A,23AA, and most M-19s were rimfire.

23B 25-20,23C 32-20,23D 22 Hornet and there were M-19 Hornets as well.

B & C were made in both slow lock and speed lock, Ds and M-19 speed lock only.

Don't buy a repro 23A magazine as they are junk.

Here's a correct one on Ebay that will probably bring $150, of course you could buy a whole beater 23A w/magazine for that price.

NOTE: in rereading the original post, he may have an M-19 speed lock. Magazines for them are quite common.

OP how about a pic of the action ?

Truman, just as an FYI:

Listen to GeneB, and ignore spalding. spalding is actually a guy named Larry Root who the moderator has banned from this site about 20 times but the guy keeps coming back in with different ID's.

PS: I see that RickBin the moderator caught up with "spalding" and merged that account in with Larry's limited oldman1942 account. So replace "spalding" in my comment above with "oldman1942".

Hello All, greatly appreciate all the feedback about the NRA 19 magazine. went to a local gun dealer who had a 23A magazine and fit my Model NRA 19 with no problem. Then went to e=bay and bid on the 23A and ended up paying $81.00. It does work good with no problems thus far. Thanks again for the advise. Take Care.
