Any advice for fitting a Ruger #1 take off barrel to a Remington 1917 sporterized action?

Doubt that the shank is large enough and I'm positive that the threads are way different. If the unturned diameter of the barrel shank is large enough you can cut the threaed shank off and start over just like you would with any barrel blank by indicating it in the lathe, turning, threading, and chambering it. For the amount of trouble I would be buying a barre blank from a reputable barrel maker instead of fooling around with a takoff.

the 1917 is 10sq tpi and 1.125 on the major according to my notes. You're gonna have to cut it and rethread/chamber.

Thread a sleeve onto the existing tenon, loc-tite it in place, then cut the shoulder in the appropriate location and thread it for the Enfield. I've done this often and it works out just fine.
People like to fool around with take-off barrels for numerous reasons. Some are bothered by the existence of a barrel not being used. Some take-offs are exceptionally good barrels. Ifr the person is (a0 capable of doing the work himself or (b) has a buddy who will work cheap, the economy of utilizing a take-off gives him the opportunity to revel in his frugality. GD

The sleeve sounds like a great idea. This is for a 416 Rigby barrel, the sleeve should make it easier to "time" the exist quarter rib & front sight.

Yes, you can use the sleeve to time the threads and get the sights on top. Works just like the sleeve on a Model 12 shotgun. Just don't Loc-tite intil it's right.

I think that will work well. Ow I just need to find a tutorial or gunsmith to open up the mag box, feed rails, and bolt face!

I'd love to hear suggestions.

Bolt face is no big deal. For the rest, bring a lunch; it's a lot of work. You will have to make a new, wider mag box and mill out the receiver rails. GD

Thanks greydog. I do have a milling machine and sheet metal tools as well as a lathe so I think I can do it. I just wish I had a book or some other reference to help me get it right, or at least close, the first time.

I got your email Don. It was great info and just what I was looking for. Do you have a 1914/1917 sporter?
