I received an Amazon gift card for the holidays and since I don't have a torque driver (except my 1/2 drive one grin) I figured I'd look there for one. A couple came up, Wheeler, Weaver and a few others.

Any recommendations, any to definitely stay away from?

Thanks in advance,

Geno

I like the Wheeler and instructions are easy to understand. It is easy to use and has most of the needed tips for working on actions and scope bases and rings.

Thanks pal,

Do they sell Snap-On through Amazon? I'm trying to find a use for the gift "card". (guess I could pick up a Mora knife if not the screwdriver and look for the Snap-On elsewhere.

I use a CDI 401SM 5-40 lbf.in. and a Mountz EMT80 30-80 lbf.in.

Unfortunately, you really need two if to want to mount and ring screws (15), picatinny mount ring nuts (65) and action screws (35-65). I don't know of a single screwdriver type using 1/4" hex drive bits that will do this whole range.

I'll be... That wasn't available back when I bought mine. OP, there you go and only $49.99. Mine are more than double that, each.

I like the wrench from Weaver better than the FAT Wrench. Borka makes a very nice and simple wrench as well.

I have the CDI model:

For 1/4-28 screws [Rem700] I like Unbrako

Here is a picture of how I get accuracy from an old cheap used torque wrench.

I learned how to calculate and verify max torque from the forum Practical Machinist. There is a engineer at Caterpillar that said, 1.5 times the thread root or more length and the screw breaks in tension, less and the female strips out in shear.

It turns out jr High shop students used to be taught that.

The other thing I learned was that screws can take only 75% if dry clean torque with oil or grease. 50% for wax.

Don't put oil on threads if you don't want them to shake loose.

Thanks everyone for your input.

It's all being taken under advisement.

A couple of the brands I'd never heard of, but will look into them.

Much appreciated to all of you,

Geno

I tried the fat wrench the other day and do not like it at all.... When it breaks, it really breaks in a jarring fashion...

Geno, ebay is a good place to find snap on products. I've bought and sold many a snap on torque wrench there...

Thanks BSA

on a side note, I finally got a membership in a range over here ( I hate going on public days!) and hope to get the rifle out soon for a tryout. Went to orientation there the other day and managed to get the pistol for my javelina hunt checked. Still sighted in. cool

You have a particular model/set that works well for gun related stuff?
