Recently saw a model 99E (308)no extra holes drilled. It has a lighter blonde stock.I've read that some were made from 1975-79?I think this might be one.Didn't get the serial no.Is $400.00 a fair buy?

Buy it! I have one with a very blond obviously unstained stock. It may have had the stain removed and refinished although I've seen quite a few like this. It was produced in 1965 and is uncheckered. I've shot several early E's in 308 that shoot 1" and under groups. What is the serial #?

I had one that I purchased in 1985, that has since been stolen, and I could hit a doorknob with it at 200 yards every time, using 168 grain handloads. Tack driver. Buy it, but look for that Savage crack first. . . (at the top tang area, by the safety).

Buy it, but look for that Savage crack first. . . (at the top tang area, by the safety). The post mil 99E safety locks the lever. Not on the tang.
