I have a rookie question. If Nosler sells Accubonds with a 9 twist rate, why are the rifles manufactured with an 8"?

Well...the bullets don't have the twist rate. The rifles do....

But maybe you are asking why the recommended twist rate for the bullets is 1-9?

That's likely because they are recommending a 9 twist as the slowesttwist rate that will stabilize the bullet.

But shooting them in an 8 twist won't hurt anything and may help over a wider range of velocities, elevations,etc..

@BobinNH
Thanks for shedding some light. I am a hunter, not a shooter/reloader and am trying to learn a little.
Thanks,
Curt

Curt no problem. Understood.

Also anyone buying a 26 Nosler will likely be looking to use the highest BC bullets available, made by companies other than Nosler, and which may need a faster twist rate than a 9 twist.

These days it isn't a good idea to sell a new higher end rifle with a twist rate that hamstrings bullet selection with a slower twist.

Yep, the 26 Nosler is an eight twist.

The 28 Nosler is a 9 twist, which seems to work well with Nosler bullets.

BUT, the 7mm Barnes LRX 168 gr. is marginal with 9 twist, 9.5 twist usually keyholes. The best rate for those bullets is 8 twist.

So, I don't guess Nosler is too worried about accommodating Barnes... shocked

You reckon...?? grin

If I built a 28 Nosler, it sure as heck would be an 8 twist, you can count on that... cool

Good things come with a little twist in reserve, bad things happen with just not enough.

Very true.

Over twist beats the heck out of under twist.

There is some help with faster velocity and some marginal guns shoot better at higher altitudes.

But, IME, velocity is a weak substitute for twist. And, I know you can compare the .300 Whisper with a .300 Mag. But in general, with similar rounds, twist trumps velocity.

No, Bob. They didn't miss THEIR boat at all...!! cool

All Nosler bullets stabilize nicely at 9 twist.

But, they sorta did put the screws to Barnes and the 168 gr. LRX... shocked

Another rookie question......

Would a person be able to load the new 150 grain Match King to a proper depth and still run it through the magazine?

Thinking a 1x7 Lilja barrel shooting the 150 MK might be kind of neat.
