I have a Marlin X7-308. I just got a Fat wrench, and went to torque the action screws to 45 In/lbs front and rear. the front torqued ok, but the rear would not torque. In fact, if you screwed the rear too far, the screw wound stick out above the tang, and block opening the action. What do you do bout this? i just loosened it enough to allow the action to open and close and left it at that. This is the factory tupperware stock. I'm planning on putting it in a Boyd's in the near future. Should I expect the same problem? Could this affect accuracy?

Trim the screw length and torque it.

I have only had this happen once on a rifle, I did as 805 suggested. End of problem.

Make sure your plastic trigger guard is not cracked and allowing the screw to slip by.

Seeing you intend to restock it don't shorten the rear screw. Try placing a washer between the trigger guard and the stock. I can't imagine good accuracy with the rear screw not tightened sufficiently.

The plastic triggerguard is cracked, but will still hold the screw. i intend to put a washer underneath it.

I bet it won't hold properly if the screw is torqued to spec. Seen it before, which is why I asked. I replaced a plastic trigger guard with this one-

It fits perfectly after you open up the rear screw hole a little with a 1/4" drill bit, and won't crack like the plastic one.
