Where can I go to hunt a wolf?

Any state offering hunting tags for them yet?

Idaho, Montana, Alaska, that's it right now.

Better to do it when you're young so you can talk about it when you're too old than talk about it when you're young and do it when you're too old.

Not Wyoming because "the blame and wish plus the governor are doing it right" So of course we don't have a wolf season. We should have a politician season soon

You can buy 5 wolf tags in Idaho. Seasons are VERY liberal, 7 months for many units. A few areas are open year round on private land.
Don't figure on just walking out and shooting a wolf behind the nearest tree. While it does happen, wolves aren't that easy to find and the country is rugged.

Come to my cabin ... we've a shoot, shovel and shut up program up in out little corner of the state. Have got 5 different packs running amuck. And I can't say that they've been as aloof as Rock Chuck finds them. What a pain these have been.

As much as I despise the critters and the damage they've done in Idaho, promoting poaching on a public website is just dumb...

Are you a regular poster who made a new handle just for this post? Maybe you're not so dumb...

Yep.....no reason to poach em when ID will do everything short of paying for the gas to encourage you to kill em....

And for the record.....Rock Chuck's spot on about the degree of difficulty but one things sure....you won't kill one setting home on the computer.....if nothing else you'll see some magnificent country....luck

No.

You can take them incidental to bear baiting, if all the other rules are satisfied.

All your answers are in the link.

I haven't figured out why Idaho allows baiting for bears but not wolves. Maybe the feds don't allow it.

I don't bait but I do throw a couple of smoked pork chops in my wife's pack, more like trolling.

The Foundation for Wildlife Management will pay for your gas if you actually manage to kill one & make a difference! Check them out, it is an organization worth supporting whether you hunt/trap wolves or not. This group has made a tremendous difference up here by funding serious trappers who probably couldn't afford to do it on their own. They have now gone statewide and I believe will be funding Montana sportsmen next year. www.f4wm.org

5 is no doubt a lot of packs to have in any area but there is no doubt multiple packs overlap a lot too, click on this link & scroll down to page 12 to see exactly what I mean. This is only documented packs, it doesn't mean there aren't more than this it just means they have proven all these packs existed and met the criteria of a "pack" according to USFWS guidelines in 2013. This could be useful information for anyone looking to hunt or trap wolves in Idaho. Best of luck to all!
