New to the forum and not sure where to post this. I have a Savage 99F in .308 Winchester. The Lever boss has an "E" and the serial number is 10006XX. I think it may have been made in about 1953 but the serial number seems high for that. Any words of wisdom?

1960, receiver made at the Westfield, MA plant but the barrel probably says Chicopee Falls. Production started there in 1960 with serial number 1,000,000.
Welcome to the campfire!

Afternoon folks. I'm from Oz; have a collection of falling block English and Scots rifles plus 2 Savages, one a transitional 1899 26665XX straight hand stock T/D in 22HP but with a Utica barrel circa 1926 and a 250/3000 s/n 20xxxx pistol grip. Both require new timber( the 22 has a split butt big time and the 250 has no timber)

What I would like to know is if any 99s were sold to English/ Oz retailers and additionally if any were retailed with local stocks to order.

Look for the flashing envelope indicating a "Private Message" next to "my stuff" near the top of the screen.

I have one, .300 savage caliber model 99. Purchased from the original owner!! Received three boxes of ammo with it, Winchester silver tips. He said he used it twice and quit hunting. Twelve rounds fired from the box's were the only rounds through the barrel, was what he told me. Back to the OP question how many does mine make!

You hit a home run on that one. Is it an EG?

I believe it is an EG. That would be marked by the lever pivot point, in an oval! It actually looks like EG1. It is hard to read even with my pocket magnify glass! Snabel for end, checkered stock, pistol grip and curved lever. With the safety on the lever area!

Sounds like an EG. EG may be stamped on the front of the receiver. You have to remove the forearm to see it. The oval on the lever boss contains one or two numbers that indicate the inspector and a letter that indicates the year the rifle was made. The letters started with A in 1949, B in 1950, etc. If it's an I the rifle was made in 1957. Post a partial serial number and we can pin down the date of production for you if the letter in the oval is unreadable. We always like to see photos also. David

Got my first 99.
Serial number lookup says made in 1935.
Guy said it was his grandpas.........supposedly he bought it new and hunted it for yrs.
Kinda rough.
Proly pop a deer w it and hang over fireplace.

24" .300 Savage. Got 2 boxes of ammo to burn through it this weekend.

Needs a tang peep (rear sight is fuzzy, not drilled for any other options). Looked around, appears to be an EG. I got it cheap enough.
Never had one, just thought it'd be cool to pop a deer with a pre WW2 rifle. Might even buy red plaid wool coat smile

I gotta fab a sling for it. Figure it made it this far without studs, now's not the time to add any.

Too bad it's not a 20" in.35 Rem.
That'd be a mo' betta deer rig for me.
Not into lever guns, have had a few Winchesters and a Marlin. Never did a thing for me. The Savage has a bit more cool factor IMHO.

That's a really nice early EG so please keep it original.

There is a sling stud that replaces the forearm screw that would solve half the problem.

I saw the stud for the forend.
Thought about making a plate to go under the grip cap.
Or fab a lace on leather deal for the rear sling attach.
All I do know is...........ready for this heat to be gone, am sick of summer. Am beyond ready for deer season.
I live really only 1.5 months of the yr.
Downright grumpy bastid until maples turn yellow and start dropping. Couple weeks of bowhunting then enough of that nonsense, bring out a boomer.

Pops is a lefty, so had a 110 way back in the 70's (before he could afford a Ruger #1).

Not long ago he got a lefty 110, heavy bbl, in .308. Nice wood (Fajen did factory stocks?). He rebarreled it to 6mm Norma BR. He's got a bad shoulder so has lessened his cartridges in power.

Nice piece of wood, for an ugly arse bolt rig.

At least with the 99 Savage had a good looking rifle smile
(excluding the yellow 1980's stuff).

I see where Marbles makes a tang sight still.
Costs about half what I paid for the rifle.
Not sure I'm gonna go that route.
May instead start digging in boxes at gunshows.
I'ma cheaparse.

Cheapest good sight for the 99 is the old style Williams FP.

The purists rag on them because it's aluminum, etc. etc.

But, they work just as well as the lyman or Redfield.
