I've shot deer with this bullet started anywhere from 2600 fps to 3175 fps. Only had one come apart. I had one break up on the shoulder of a large doe who was 50ish yards uphill from me when started at 3050fps. Both large pieces exited. The deer fell over. I guess it worked.

Oh, I never found one in the deer either.

Mine showed up today, ordered on Sunday. The blue tips are different for a Nosler. For the price, they coulda been rainbow colored tips with little happy faces printed on and I'd happily shoot them.

Thanks for the "tip". I bought 10 boxes.

You have to keep an eye on SPS, as the bullets can come and go pretty quickly. The 120s were there for quite awhile, though.

I don't shoot them, because they do nothing that 140s won't do a little better.

7-08/120BT's made for a fun day of culling. One nice thing about this combo is the relatively low recoil as compared to the 140gr loads I'm very fond of.

JG,

That looks like a purty good load. Most I ever had in a single pickup bed was seven. Looks like you might have that whipped!

I wound up with 14 in there. The amount of does on that alfalfa field (MLD ground too)was ridiculous. Hunter's for the Hungry was very happy too!

That was my scientific research on just how good those 120BT's @ 3000'ish are on whitetails.

Pharmseller, Thanks for asking about that post. I even had to hunt around, it was buried in the C.F. elk hunting section (Dec. 2011). I must have took the picture out of photobucket, but I just put it back in. Added a copy/paste of the original post to here. The only thing that has changed is the ‘My wife’ part, ‘ex’ now, but it’s all good.

“To many this may be just your garden variety cow elk laying next to your rain drenched garden variety Irish lass, but the journey to this very point was a long endurance test through recent history.

My wife, Kim, made an incredible shot on this cow Tuesday morning, through cold drizzle/rain, fog, muddy muck and general crappy hunting conditions. Yet, this was her very first big game species ever taken and this gun is the first she has ever shot. She practiced shooting at the range tearing out paper groups like a religion when she got the gun several years ago. Finally she got the tag and proved even middle age chicks starting out can 'thread that needle' to perfection. One shot drop, all the way baby. That woman sports a big smile now and deservedly so.

Take Care Campfire and Merry Christmas to all of you and your families,
eric

Kim's gun: 700 bdl sps 7mm-08
Bullet: 120 nosler b-tip (reload)
Range: 230-240 yards

Special Thanks to:
Proud_Dad (about the caliber)
PaPa260
longshot3 (that base really was the difference)
Eremicus
and
dogzapper (for the week before calming words of wisdom concerning the bullet choice)”

I think this is what Godogs57 was talking about. In the picture, both are Nosler 7mm ballistic tips. Nosler colored the tips Red for that caliber, (the ones on sale now must be a screw up in the tips color. Same 7mm 120 gr. nbt, just a different colored tip.)

The NBT on the left is 140 gr., on one the right is the 120 gr. Look closely at the thickness of the copper jackets. That 120 gr. is thicker, giving it a more controlled expansion. What Godogs said, was what I had heard about the bullets too. The silhouette shooters were using the 120 nbts to knock down steel rams, then the rest of us caught on to the endurance of the bullet. Dogzapper is really the one to talk to, he has an album full of big game attached to him and that 120 gr. nbt.

I understand that a thicker jacket makes the 120 BT much tougher, but I am a bit surprised that it also seems to help retain its core without coming apart. Any comments why? Is there much difference between the 120 and 140 BTs in core retention?

The Blue Meanies have arrived. Unfortunately it'll be after Easter before I will have a chance to load some and try them out. They must be over-runs because I sure don't see any blemishes on them.
