Several of you guys have sent me PM's and emails asking about the next batch of 452 American's and as promised, I'm letting you know some arrived! We got a pallet in late yesterday afternoon. There were only 48 on this batch and they'll go pretty quick.

All 22LR in their standard walnut. No maple or HM2's -- that will be the next question. They won't be doing any more maple or any HM2's in the future -- no HMR's either! In fact, they told me at SHOT this would be the last special run they'd ever do. They said it was too expensive to switch over the tooling and schedule production. We'll have more scatter in through the year, but it looks like this will be the end.

Just an FYI for those looking in case I miss the email or PM while sorting through things. They're on the fist page of the website. It's much easier to buy them there than sending me a PM!

Just a heads up.

Better get one while you can. Best rifle around under $2000 IMHO. I have 3 but wish I could pick up a couple more.

Is this the model with the set trigger? The model that was replaced by the 455?

Believe the 453 had the set trigger. My 452 does not.

Ordered a 452 American LH .22lr version this afternoon. Figured it was about time I owned a LH bolt gun.

It is great to see that there are at least a few more 452s being made. Unfortunately, I was hoping to see "there are a few maple stocked shooters in the batch" but so it goes! The 452s are great shooters, especially for the price. I managed to find my way into locating one of each caliber in the 'American' platform over the years, but intend on adding others (22LR and a 22Mag in full stock versions), hopefully a maple stocked one some day, and wouldn't mind some others either!

Cheers to Whittaker Guns for getting some more in!

Whittaker Guns is such a pleasure to do business with.
I bought one of these on the previous run.
Why the heck did I wait so long to buy my first CZ? grin

Right you are. I have a 453, and it does have the set trigger.

Question for the guys that have one of these.

Regarding the safety operation, is it forward to fire, or is it forward to safe position?

I had a CZ rimfire a while back (can't remember exactly which model) but it had a "forward to safe" operation which is the opposite of what I am used to.

Just wanted to know if these were the same or not.

Thanks!

I have had a LH 452 22 lr for probably 6 or 7 years now, you won't be disappointed mine is very accurate. This gun ended my search for a good lefty 22 and is going no where.

My 452 Lux is forward to safe. All CZ rimfires I have seen are the same. I haven't found it to be a problem as I rarely use a safety. I carry empty and bolt open.

gerrygoat, thanks. That one of yours is a beauty. Hope to have mine in the stable by this Thursday. Whittaker's is good about getting stuff right out to you, I've pleasantly found out. Lot better than Bud's, and a better price, too.

It's a solid gun, I like how much steel is in it compared to a lot of other guns. The only draw back is the trigger is a bit stiff but there are some good aftermarket parts for that. I never bothered since it shoots so well and is only a minor gripe. Great quality and worth every penny, hope you let us know how it shoots for you.......

I bought a like new CZ 452 (full-length stock) last fall
and it has the best trigger of any firearm I've ever fired.

I don't know if the trigger is stock, custom, or smithed.
It came with a Leupold fixed 6X scope, and it's also
the most accurate rifle (for me) that I've ever fired.

Well I just got my CZ 452 today from Whittakers. To say I'm happy would be an understatement!
Got it home and scoped it with a 2.5 x 36 Leupold. got it sighted in at 50 yards with various ammo.I also adjusted the trigger down as low as it would go, right at three lbs. Has a little bit of creep but not terrible, Shot reasonably well with what I had on hand.
Then my son brought me some Eley target ammo he had in the car, (only had ten rounds).
I can now say I have shot a ONE HOLE group! You can cover the group with a pencil eraser! It may have been pure luck, but I'm taking it! Also just ordered 500 more just to see if it will repeat. We'll see..
Can you tell I'm happy??

For those of you who may not know, there is a YoDave Trigger kit for the CZs that is inexpensive ($18) and does a great job on the trigger.

http://www.yodaveproducts.com/

It comes with several springs and bushings and depending on preference, 1 kit can do several triggers.

Well worth the investments IMO.

Funny you would mention that tonite! I just ordered one this evening off E-bay.
That is my only complaint with this rifle. The trigger is adjusted as low as I can get it at 3 lbs and has some creep. Hoping this kit cures it.

Just an update on the trigger.
I've been doing some research online and it kept coming up to change the spring with a #144 spring from Ace hardware. So, being bored today, I did just that. For 75 cent investment and about 10 minutes time, trigger pull went to 1 3/4 lbs with little to no creep!
Just fyi, might be worth a try!

They are in their parts bins where they have small springs and misc stuff. They will have a bunch of different sized springs in there, just look for the #144.
If you can't find it I'll pick one up and mail it to you.
Let me know

Good suggestion with the #144 spring from ACE hardware. Who manufactures the spring(?) because I'm not aware of any ACE Hardware stores located north of the Great Lakes.

Nice rig gerrygoat! What scope and rings did you use?

Update on the trigger. Got a Yodave trigger kit, installed
it and all creep is gone with a 1 1/2 lb pull now. Sweet!
Simple install, good directions included, about $18.00 + shipping.

You are probably looking and local dirt's gun, I quoted him in that post but just in case you are looking at my gun on the first page I used Leupold rings and a Weaver 2.5-7x28 scope. Pretty impressed with them. Would like to hear what others are using.

Happy Bday capt.. I'm not local dirt but I know he used a CZ rail from DIP products and Leupold prw medium rings with a 12X swfa scope.
His is a bulletproof setup and id not hesitate to go that route of you were looking for ideas..

I will be looking for that rail. It's hard to find good 22 cal. rings that work well with the 3/8 dovetail.
I've got a 6x24 Weaver Classic mounted right now, but might look into the SWFA.

That's the glory of the DIP rail capt...check out their website or just call and talk to Bob. He's a nice guy and his rails are solid and open up a multitude of choices when it comes to rings..

Sure thing...before you snug the rail drop a lead BB down the screw holes for the set screws to bite/mash into as a barrier between the set screw and your receiver. Keeps the screws from marring your receiver..

I bought a mint older 452 American 22lr a few weeks ago. Bought it to introduce a close friend's son into precision shooting. We are going to do a Yo Dave job on it this week. I have a 17 hmr 452 and am amazed at the price vs. quality of these rifles. Briefly had a 455 22lr. My particular 455 did not shoot as well as anticipated. Tried many different brands of target and match ammo. Do most CZ fans prefer the 452 to the 455? My experience with a so so 455 could be an isolated event.

My experience has been that my 455 shoots equal to my 452 sporter, and my 452FS. I have a few older BRNO model 1's, and they are nice shooters as well.

I had a 452 Varmint in 22 Magnum. I replaced it with a 455 Lux in 22 Magnum. The 455 is just as accurate as the 452 I had, plus it's lighter and the stock fits me better. I know it is only a sample of one each, but I would try a 455 again.

I bought a new 452 last year, and it out-shot my early 455 hands-down. My 455 IS coming around, finally, but the 452 I bought in 2015 was a shooter straight out of the box. All I did was mount a scope on it and shoot.

Some of the early 455s had some problems with the barrel crowns, I'm told. Mine didn't seem to have any, but it never shot as well as I thought it should. It is, now, though, coming around, as I said.
My 452 is shooting the way I thought the 455 should, straight up, right out of the box.

I'm keeping both rifles, I really like them a lot, but I'm more fond of the 452.

I just did a Yo Dave trigger job on a 452. Amazing result! Horrible trigger became a great feeling one for 18 bucks. I bought a Timney for my old 455. It was no better feeling than the Yo Dave converted factory 452 trigger. We will shoot the 452 this weekend. I bought a Kimber 82 this weekend. Would not be surprised if the 452 out shoots it or equals it. My 452 17hmr outshot my heavy barreled 1717 Anschutz.

My recently purchased 452 w/a 12x SS is a dime size one ragged hole launcher.

IMHO,a far better rifle than the 455.

SAS, are the 452 Scouts considered part of the "special runs" they aren't going to do anymore? Wondering whether I should pick one up before they become 455 Scouts.

While we're at it, can you confirm or deny the rumor that they failed to hit profitability targets when using Dan Wesson's factory to make GI-spec 1911s and will never do that again, either?

There has been no announcement to discontinue either the 252 scout or the left handed 452. Naturally anything could happen, I would not be in a panic. Then waiting too long can be a risk.

Sad to say the future for the 452 and 453 right handed models looks pretty bleak. I did not get a 22mag right hand when they were available. I missed that boat. I did get a 453 in 22lr. Very nice gun a lifetime keeper for me.

A lot of guys on rim fire central pick up scouts and mount them in factory American model stocks ( adult stock ). They seem to make a handy hunting rifle.

Thanks,
Eddie

Wohoo!

Nice smile

I had mine out again because of this thread and shot 200 rounds and it didn't disappoint. I would have shot it earlier but I put away the magazine in a safe spot and then forgot where it was wink

IMHO - Highly unlikely. A 455 would be your best, if not only, bet.

Picked up my Whittakers 452 Tuesday and didn't have a chance to mess with it till late this evening. The only scope I had setting around is an old Trashco 4 - 16 that has been used to evaluate many rimfires over the years, so I stuck it on there real quick. No time to play with the trigger or any bedding. Just run a couple dry patches down the barrel and commenced to shooting with some Norma match that three of my other rifle don't like.

The first five shots at around 25 yards to confirm that I should be on paper went into about a 1/4". I moved the target to +/- 50 yards and went to shooting again. I didn't take time to range it because it was already getting dark. The first five at 50, I couldn't tell where it was hitting, turns out they were low left and hitting in with another group from a different rifle on a different day.

A scope adjustment and another 5 shots produced about a 3/4" group. The next three 5 shot groups all had one called flyer. The biggest group of the three was around 5/8" and the other 2 right on 1/2" measured with a ruler. Both of the 1/2" groups had 4 shots each into almost a 1/4". By then dark was upon me so I quit.

Afterwards I did check a few things. The very end of the forearm does touch the stock. Inserting a dollar bill right behind that shows that it is free floating back to the action. Folding the dollar bill double it will insert into the barrel channel on the right side but will not come through on the left.

Three pulls with my Lyman trigger pull gauge broke at 3 1/2, 3 3/4 and 3 3/4 lbs. There is a fair amount of creep in the trigger.

A little bedding, a little trigger work, a good mount and scope and I may have a pretty good little rifle.

Thanks SAS.

Dave.

I'm thinking your right.

Hoping it's not as picky about ammo as some of my other .22's.

I sighted in my new CZ 452 22lr on Saturday. Man what a little shooter that gun is! I'm going to have a lot of fun with that me thinks.

Now for the downside. I shot my Ruger 10/22 afterwards to see if the scope was still on and realized for the first time how crappy them triggers are. eek

After shooting the CZ, the Ruger felt like I was trying to pull an elephant through a woodpecker hole!

Glad you're enjoying your 452. Maybe you can get the 10/22 working good with a little fluff and buff trigger job.

That 10-22 trigger must be bad because the CZ trigger can be a bit rough smile Glad you are enjoying it, they make a fine gun........
