Got an email from my bud at Winchester/Olin today. 243 WSSM ammo and brass is currently in the production process, soon to be followed by the 25 WSSM and then 223 WSSM. Watch the on-line sellers, as the big retail and wholesale buyers will be first in line.

Those idjits stopped making all kinds of good brass years ago, including the 300 H&H, 375 H&H, etc and it's impossible to find 348 or 300 Savage.

I did plead for them to run brass for 22 "obsolete" cartridges, sadly none of the 22 that I pleaded for included the 4 that you cited.

From a couple of batches I got it seems like they quit making good 308 Winchester brass a couple of years ago.

I sent them my 10th blistering request about 2 weeks ago for 243 WSSM and told them the market prices were outrageous right now.

Amazing that I have such pull!

Maybe Winchester/Olin feels some obligation to the 25 people who bought Browning and Winchester/USRA WSSM rifles.

I would be happier if Federal made some more WSSM brass, as I think that their's is a lot more user friendly than the Winchester/Olin brass. But, when I realized that the WSSMs were slow to take off, I bought several thousand pieces of Federal 223 and 243 WSSM brass from Graf & Son on close out.

Fortunately for me, I have plenty of ammo for both my 375 H&H and 356 Win. The 356 Win was #12 on the list of 22 "obsolete" styles of ammo/brass that I asked Winchester/Olin to consider making. If you have a Marlin 336 in 356 Win, you can use 358 brass, as long as you load within the shorter 356 COAL limits.

I like the guy who is in charge of Winchester/Olin's center-fire ammo/brass production. The fact that they have recently made runs of 22 Hornet, 30-40 Krag, and 44-40 ammo/brass seems like a positive sign to me. I don't need any WSSM ammo or brass, as I have lots of it on hand, but I hate to see people who need it getting screwed by the scalpers.

You really think they're idiots? With the way ammo is selling now making a run of 375 Win or 356 Win would be a loss of money for them. By the time the shut the line down, changed the dies, made the 50,000 pieces of brass and then shut the line down again they could have made 500,000 pieces of brass that they could sell faster than the 50,000 pieces of obsolete brass you want them to make. You may not like it but they're doing what anyone with a brain would do if it was their business.

So this is more important to them than say 7/08, 204, etc???? I haven't found any Win 7/08 brass since 2014. Maybe 2013.

I shoot over 50 different CF rifle cartridges, some common/boring, some, like the 256 Newton, that haven't been factory loaded for over 75 years. But, I like most rifles and cartridges, so it doesn't take too much arm twisting for me to try something that is new to me.

Don't know, I haven't bothered to follow up with my buddy at Winchester/Olin, as I have several thousand pieces of new Federal 223 and 243 WSSM brass and don't care for the Winchester/Olin brass.

If you legitimately have a contact over there, can you find out what happened to all their other brass? Seems like the retailers have dropped all the varmint cartridges other than 223.

Why should I nag my buddy about stuff that I don't have any interest in?

If you hadn't suggested that I'm a liar, I would have contacted him and asked him where the 243 WSSM ammo and brass is in the production stream. But, since you did, I won't bother to do so.

A. I didn't suggest you were a liar.

B. If you truly did have a "bud" at Olin, it wouldn't be "nagging" to just drop a line and ask.

C. But since you went full hissy-fit, I think you outed yourself as a selfish little [bleep].

Well , maybe now the WSSie whiners will be smarter and buy several thou pcs and shut the L up for ten years or more, but they won't of course ......

they will buy 20 pcs then whine later that it should be on the shelves available everytime they need a couple pcs.... It's practically a cultural and social dilemma, widely accepted to whine about WSSM brass, there's 12 step programs for coping with WSSoholism and clinics to treat WPTSDSSM, hospitals and physicians offer free care for couples dealing with Fetal WSSohol Syndrome and Multiple lack of WSSMosis including other severe afflictions .... Word is Bernie will make the rich bastards pay for producing a bunch of brass and will be free to all WSSocialists , if he wins.... but he won't , so the suffering will continue .....

get a rope, find a tree and end the pain

Are you channeling your inner Gabby Johnson?

And there I was, thinking that I was doing a public service by alerting WSSM shooters that Winchester/Olin was setting up a production line at the Oxford, MS, ammo plant to produce WSSM ammo and brass.

Why is it that, for some people, no good deed goes unpunished?

At least you know what you're getting into when you try one of the oddballs. I feel for the newbies that drink the Koolade on new stuff without looking down the road a bit and then get stuck when the promise doesn't pan out. I've never gotten stuck, but most of the rifles I'm drawn to use standard, boring rounds. The craziest thing I ever got involved with was a .17 Mach2 1911 conversion. Got my money back on the kit and the ammo I'd stockpiled; 1800 rounds as I recall.

I discarded my "feelers" when I turned 13 and replaced them with blunt force truth sarcasm, the need for more "truth... even if it hurts" is a much needed remedy for this ailing nation..... or "Alien Nation" with all these illegals aliens bouncing over...... hahaha see... blunt force truth sarcasm ! it's harmless, nobody died !

I do have a Win 70 that used to be a 223 WSSM and did accumulate ove 1k pcs of brass before the shortage and price gouging started, wasn't affected in anyway and since have used the Win 70 for a wildcat build that took me away from the WSSM brass requirement

Was the 270 WSM on your list? No way I will pay $3 per case for Nosler brass or $2+ for Norma. I got tired of waiting around for Winchester to produce some, so I picked up 500 primed Federal nickel cases that had the bullets pulled. They work fine, and came out to around $.42 per case delivered including primers. Maybe Hornady or Prvi Partizan will consider tooling up for it since Winchester and Remington seem to have lost interest.

That is great news !

I just bought 420 cases here on the fire a few weeks ago for my Bro-n-law.

I'm sure that he'll be buying more when this stuff his the market.

Sweet little round for his daughter to use on white tail.

OTOH, while shelves were bare of stuff like 308 Winchester, 7 Rem Mag, and 223 ammo, there were (and still are) the same boxes of 225 Winchester ammo sitting there. You need to choose which obsolete stuff you want. Heck, 20 years ago the 22 Hornet and 218 Bee were pretty much in company with the 225.

judging the looks of GB auctions I would say that 243 wssm is "in the marketplace"

still sellers are hoping for the uninformed or uber wealthy

$245 for 40 rounds
$874 for 200 rounds

BTW: I received an email today from Midway today notifying me that the 25WSSM Ammo had arrived. They were sold out within an hour. I called Winchester to see if they were making more. They said probably another run " next year" 😁

Thankfully MidwayUSA isn't the only retailer to buy 25 WSSM ammo from.

Proper prior planning promotes positive professional performance.

I have "enough" 7 WSM brass; I bought several hundred cases when I ordered my 7 WSM reamer. But it's a bit of a rodeo to get it and involves some financial ankle-grabbing.. . It will be awesome to have some available through normal channels. I just hope they make a LOT so that it doesn't all get sucked up in a few days.

The CENTER will hold.
