I just picked up a new RAR Pred. in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I'm going to an informal shoot in a couple of weeks. I'm looking to buy either a half case (5 boxes) or a case of factory ammunition to take with me since I can't reload for it in the limited amount of time till we go.
I have heard a lot of reports about the various Hornady loadings, but none for the Winchester 140gr. BTHP (Sierra Match King) load.
Anyone try this in their Creedmoor?
The Hornady loads, and the Winchester's are the only thing available in this limited time that I can put my hands on.
Opinions?

I've shot 100 rounds of the Winchester/Olin and it shoots fine in my RAR-Predator and V2. If you don't have time to find the comparable Hornady ammo, I'd buy the Winchester/Olin. If you had more time, I'd say buy both and after some range time, buy more of the one that shoots better groups in your rifle. I've seen the Winchester/Olin for under $22 per box of 20 and think that it would be hard to find as more value for the $$.

Did your Creeds like the Winchester stuff as well as or better than the Hornady? This will be used strictly for banging steel and getting it
"broken in". After that I will have time to start reloading. I figure the 100-200 rounds of same lot brass will work to start out with.

I said it was to get me started, smart azz! wink smile

There'l be plenty of time to get a good supply. I figured 100-200 to get me started.

Nice stack of stuff there.

Why not prime? This stuff is awesome and the brass is Norma stamped for prime. My RPR shoots it into little bitty groups: and at $25.35 a box it is a deal for loaded Norma brass.

I see that! This is a last minute deal for me. My local dealer finally had these RAR-P's in stock, and I grabbed one.

We leave for Arkansas on Tuesday, so whatever ammunition I grab has to be on the dealer's shelf.

At this point the Winchester looks to be a good choice. SMK's have always shot well in any caliber.

Looked at that stuff, seems there's lots of potential with quality components. It's something to look at after we get back.

They shoot better groups with the Hornady 120 and 140 grain AMax than with the 140 grain Winchester/Olin. Only slightly better, but consistantly slightly better.

He was referring to his RAR-Predator and V2 in answer to my question.

The actual real answer to the question will probably be both Hornady and Winchester, especially if the store doesn't have enough of one type.

I'm getting a RAR-Predator in 6.5 CM very soon and ordered a box of 140 ELD and another of 120 GMXs. Some rifles seem to prefer heavier or lighter bullets, I hope to get some insight. Huntsman, it appears you like the 140 Amax! Ever used them on Deer or Elk?

I've shot 2 whitetails with the 140 grain AMax from a 6.5x55. It killed them, but I think that there are lots of better bullet options and won't use that bullet to shoot anything but paper these days. OTOH, the 95 grain VMax is a quick killer of lung shot deer, but not nearly tough enough to get the sort of bone breaking penetration that I'd want for elk.

My 6.5 Creedmoor built by HCR shoots the Hornady ELD match into .3-5" consistently shot 3 groups with the Winchester Match that averaged .80". Did not check the velocity.
