I use Leupold rings on my 75/85s. Optilock are about twice as heavy. I dont think Talley makes 75/85 mounts.

Thanks, I plan to sell the optilocks and go with leupold, mostly to get the scope a bit lower. I am also going to refinish the stock, sell it, and put on a McMillan. This is all assuming it passes my accuracy standard.

I have a NIB Sako 75 Finnlight in 260, doesn't say anything about twist on the box. I better scope her up and give her a shake down cruise by the reports on this post! Want to sell it? I love finnlights. I have a 260 I may end up selling to a guy that is wearing me out about it....

I had a grey wolf in 243 once. I bought it second hand with a LPS scope on it. It shot LIGHTS OUT with anything I put in it. Like an idiot I sold it...only to pick up a 75 finnlight in same caliber and it shoots bug holes! There seems to be a pattern on these Sako rifles. The grey wolf honestly was too heavy to me(matter of opinion) in a 243.

What's a good lightweight ring option? Talley make a 1 piece for sako 75? I'd suggest looking at Leupold Ringmounts. I had them on my old Sako 75 and thought they worked very well. If I recall, the mediums gave me just enough objective clearance for a vx2 3-9x40mm and allowed for a nice cheek weld.

What's a newly refinished grey wolf stock worth? You would probably get $200 or so on EBay

Thanks guys, I'm up to 3rd coat of Truoil. Will post a few pics after I make it to the range. This sounds completely stupid, but this stock is looking so good, I don't know if I can hunt it!

Like to hear what your technique was for refinishing the laminate; I bought a Volquartsen .22 that has a laminate stock that needs a touch up.

Like to hear what your technique was for refinishing the laminate; I bought a Volquartsen .22 that has a laminate stock that needs a touch up. Well, stripped the existing finish with citristrip and a small plastic scraper. Ended up taking a few applications to get down to the wood. Then I used 400 grit sandpaper to smooth down the entire stock, focusing on any gouges or scratches till they were gone, though in all honesty it appears that most of the scratches were only in the clear coat as only a few were still visible on the actual stock. I am now using Truoil. Apply a layer, let it dry for 24 hours. Buff out any runs / imperfections with 000 steel wool. Apply another layer...repeat. Final coat I will buff again with steel wool so its a matte finish, not glossy. Overall, I am very pleased with the outcome. Probably have 4-6 hours into it so far.

What would a sako 260 take off barrel be worth? Less than 100 round thru it.

Overall, pretty impressed with the final product. Ended up putting 4 coats of truoil and 4 coats of satin matte polyurethane finish.

Couldn't wait, went to range at lunch. All I had is some federal and remington factory loads, all 140gr.Remington grouped a 2.25" @ 200 yd. Federals were closer to 3". I was in a bit of a hurry, so expect these to tighten up with handloads and more concentration on my part...
