Maybe your friend was born under a lucky star.

There are dozens of horror stories on RFC about 10/22 to 17HM2 conversion failures.

Found a decent new to me store today and scored two bricks of 17M2 ammo at $9.99 a box. Relearned a lesson we should all keep in mind. Just because it's not on the shelf doesn't mean they don't have it.

Aboltfan: Just returned from a swing out on the west coast and checked at least 22 maybe 25 stores/shops - not a lick of 17 Mach2 ammo to be found anywhere.
Virtually no luck on American made 22 L.R. hollow-points - did buy a few boxes but no deals anywhere.
Everything was high priced and or foreign, non-hollowpoint or shorts/standard velocity/target or blah blah?
Did get offended (and thats pretty hard to do!) by some prices on C.C.I. higher velocity hollow-points at a couple of stores.
Those stores are on my "gougers" list now.
I was hoping some Mach2 was gonna hit more stores this spring.
Oh well.
Good find on your two bricks!

Got this email from CCI the other day:

Jeffery, we discontinued the CCI 17 Mach II ammunition the beginning of 2014 and have no current plans to bring it back, the only current source for new ammunition will be from Hornady.

No CCI, no Eley, and No Remington. I won't mourn the passing of the CCI ammo, but the loss of Eley is a body blow, since is was the best 17HM2 ammo yet to be made.

260Remguy: Yikes!
Thank you very much for that update.
Not good news but news none the less.
Well I guess that about settles it - I won't be buying any more guns in caliber 17 Mach2.
And that's a shame as this is a splendid little small game, Ground Squirrel and Tree Squirrel cartridge - accurate, lethal and relatively quiet.
Thanks again.

Hadn't heard that about CCI. As VH said, thanks for the info, good or bad....
