Once I have a big bore rifle zeroed, I stay away from the bench and shoot off sticks or off hand, the lead sled will split or break your stock sooner or later, and you can't carry it with you when hunting.Rio7

Recommend getting a better recoil pad and padding on shoulder before getting a Lead Sled. Have heard stories about using them with heavy recoiling guns, then stocks split and scopes are wasted do to stopping all the force of the recoil.
Nothing like a Remington 700xcr.

I prefer a 10 pound bag of lead shot draped over my shoulder between it and the butt when shooting from the bench. It's a lot easier on the rifle and tames everything down

Phil, if the big bores get too much for you, just have Rocky sight them in for you :-)

kenster99, did you have the bolt bent on your Siamese or did it come to you bent? i just bought the full length 9 pound plus version and am debating bending the bolt. if you had it done could you recommend someone ?
have to say off the bench even at 9+ lbs it is a thumper with my 550g crater bear loads.

Another option is to build a shooting bench high enough that you shoot standing. We had one at Minneapolis Rifle Club. Really nice for sighting 12 gauge with slugs or any hard kicking rifles.
I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger! There is only one kind of dead, but there are many different kinds of wounded.

For taller folks it is often brutal watching them shoot thumpers when they are laying over the top of the gun.
A lower stool will get their backs straight and allow recoil to move them more easily, rather than stopping all the juice from leaning into it.

Yup. Stand up and shoot those thumpers. Give with the recoil, don't just stay there and take the beating...

I'm good for about 10 shots off the bench. Standing is the way to go once you get the rifle sighted in properly.
