I have had several 336's, mostly in the 24" half mag. Style. The only delux I have seen I my cousins in .32 special.. He bought it over 65 years ago at $5.00 per pay from company store in a small mining town?

Yes, they are hard to find. The 336 SD, Sporting Carbine Deluxe, are really hard to find, I've owned 2 of them, 1 in 32 WS and 1 in 35.

The newer ones they did a couple years ago are what I feel like he may be referring too. If so I'll say from the pair we had at the shop that I don't think you're missing much. The wood had very nice figure but was just as poorly checkered and finished as the normal models. The rest of the guns were identical to a standard model as far as finish and workmanship goes, no special finish, no extra polishing or tuning. Basically your average 336 with nicer wood for twice the price.

The old ADL models of the 50's and 60's at least came with a different shaped and checkered stock made by Bishop or Fajen depending on vintage. And supposedly had extra attention to the metalwork and finish.

I was interested in the SD's made from 56 to 62 or the ADL's from 48 to 62. Strange why they are hard to find considering the ADL's were made for 15 yrs!!! (according to the 336 book from Murray)

I know it's an old post but I'm a newby. You have 336s with a 24" barrel? That's rare, right? Or maybe there are more of them out west. Around the eastern states from PA, to FL most 336s are shorter barrels. It took me a long time to find my 336A in .30-'30 with a 24" barrel. From. What I can find they were made from. 1946-'48. Are your's newer and different calibers? Thanks

According to Brophy there were only 5000 out of 40,000 deluxes made from 1948 through 1962. So all in all they are very scarce. 32 Special seems the scarcer of the common calibers. I think I have 2 deluxes in each 30-30, 32 Spl. and 35 Rem. Only ever found one SD. in 35Rem.

I've owned 336 SDs in 30-30, 32 Spl., and 35 Rem. The 32 Spl. and 35 Rem were minty and the 32 Spl. is the only one that I recall seeing. The 30-30 is a recent purchase from a friend who is downsizing into retirement.
