Not sure what to do with it, I suppose I will research this on the web and ask around. It was a hand me down from a guy that had a truck like mine and traded it for a new F150.

Any of you guys have this chip change device? how do you like it, has it been better for MPG?

The guy I got it from could not give good answers to the MPG stuff, because his truck was so heavily modified for towing that he could pin point the improvement from this alone. He said I should get 2-3MPG better mileage was his guess? However he did say that on the 100 setting I could see sports car performance without doing anything else. Although it would likely destroy my tranny. " so don't use the 100" was his advice. Stick with the 40 while pulling a trailer and the 70 when empty.

Smarty makes some of the best upgrades out there for Cummins, not sure which truck you are running but when I upgrade mine, it will likely be a Smarty.

2004 5.9

Set it up for the 70hp it was a shocking increase.

Went back down to 40hp it's easier to deal with.

I cannot imagine what the 100hp setting is like I'm too chicken

Didn't care for it on my 5.9 and went with an EFI Live Autocal with a custom tow tune.

Regardless, don't get crazy with the heavier settings unless you're prepared to put some money in your trans.

My dad used a Smarty Jr. when he deleted the emissions on his 6.7 Cummins. Didn't need more power just needed the Smarty to fool the computer into thinking the emissions were still on the truck and working correctly.

Drove 220 miles with it this weekend set to 40hp

Power Feel is probably a little better then stock on level ground pulling my 7000 lb trailer.

Climbing hills it's a definite difference, like I'm still on level ground! It's 100% improvement in mid range and higher rpm power.

I think the 70hp setting starts to develope the power from start which makes it spooky responsive down low. I also see 2mpg better then usual on the meter. Will have to hand calculate to know for sure. My gauge is usually 3/4 mpg higher then actual

JJ,

I had a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, and I put a performance chip in it (not Smarty Jr.), but it had several settings for boosting HP, etc.

It worked, fuel mileage improved slightly, but after 2000 miles or so, the automatic transmission started slipping.

After a trip to ATI for a high performance torque converter and valve body, and associated goodies, I was out the door several thousand dollars poorer.

If your truck is a manual transmission, you probably wouldn't have the problems I had, but if you do, just expect to have to beef up the TC.

It's hard not to like the way it wakes the 5.9 Cummins up. Hoping it does the same for my 6.7 when I upgrade.
