Forgive me if someone else all ready posted about this, but well known wildlife artist Terry Redlin passed away. I saw the announcement in the Star Tribune. Terry was well known for his depictions of wildlife, hunting scenes, and rural Americana. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets were a staple of many of Terry's works. What a shame to see such a gifted artist is no longer with us. He died of dementia related to Alzheimer's after a 9 year battle with the dreaded disease. I own two of his prints.

Rest In Peace, Terry.

Got to meet Terry Redlin once in St Paul, during a business call at West Publishing...he was there on a business appointment and we were sitting in the visitors waiting room....

Got to talk to him for 5 to 10 minutes...

I think our family has about 15 of his pics.. wife has picked a bunch of those up at Thrift Stores and Antique Stores...

For those interested in his pictures, here's a list of each of them...

Damn, super talented.

Met him a few times in-studio/home.

Studies and assorted work all over the place.

I worked on several Ducks Unlimited Canada fundraising dinners and the Terry Redlin prints were always among the top sellers. He was an amazing artist and he will be greatly missed.

Something I learned about Redlin... he had a problem painting deer antlers... especially hanging on a wall...

had a bad habit of painting them pointing backwards...

I had the pleasure of meeting one of his contemporaries last year up in Pequot Lakes. Jerry Raedeke had a studio and gift shop up there, and he happened to be there the one day we stopped in. Shortly after I moved to Minnesota I picked up a copy of The Gleaners, which is his work. It's set in a flooded farm field with ducks coming in to land and feed. It reminded me of a couple of the swamps I hunted back home in Ohio. I shared a cup of coffee with Mr. Raedeke, and we ended up talking for well over an hour about places we'd been, folks we'd shared a duck blind or a trees stand with, and those who had gone on to hunt if far better places. These guys that can put a brush to canvas and bring out such beautiful images are truly a National treasure.

There is speculation that Terry's dementia was somehow related to the lead in his paints.
