So even a stripped lower has to be FFL transferred?

So even a stripped lower has to be FFL transferred? Correct. Stripped has to be xfered. That's why It rarely makes sense to buy one online from my perspective. I think you can have an 80% shipped to you, but don't quote me on that. Never played that game.

that sucks. Thats better than 50 plus 35.....math wise.... Problem, is most local dealers will get you an Anderson for around $50. Dealer here sold a complete lower to my BIL for 99 bucks plus shipping and tax, IIRC it was 116 out the door, some polymer lower, buttstock, grip internals and all... Obviously if I found a lower for 35 that cost 70 by the end but the dealer was selling in stock for 50, thats a no brainer...

You can put multiple firearms on a Form 4473. A dealer sold me 4 Anderson lowers and did it all on one form. Your local FFL shouldn't charge per firearm, just a one time fee. If they do, find someone else.

Understood. The guy I was talking to in there said that people charging so much was a ripoff due to the process being so easy. I've got 5 lowers to pick up today and I'll hand him a $10 bill, fill out my paperwork, and walk out in 15 minutes.

I totally agree. Now it's even easier. They're pushing for online, so my FFL pulls up his smartphone, enters a couple things and it's done.

I picked up a few aluminum stripped lowers locally for $55 each, tax included.

If they do, find someone else. Bingo. My LGS/FFL will let me transfer as many as I want on one Form 4473, if done at the same time and I don't go crazy with it. $10 transfer fee, $5 background check. If your FFL isn't doing something like that for you, you need to look for another one.

That's the bullshit part of it. Guys in my area are charging as little as $10.00 to some at $50.00. With a set price on the instacheck there should be some regulation on what they can charge. Just another reason it's getting hard for an individual to get full price for a gun. By the time you add shipping and transfer the seller gotta figure another $50 - $100 into the price.

Didn't figure you'd recognize sarcasm either. Keep raising prices on everything until it's either unaffordable or they close the doors. I can only assume you hold one of those prized FFL's.

I'm just going to leave it at this. no I don't have one of those prizes.... but I am amazed that so many that don't own a business can see to tell the owners how they should run it... most that think this way would fail quickly at a business.

I really cant blame LGSs for charging for paperwork, they have overhead and inventory and liability. Then you want them to charge you nothing for online purchases in direct competition with them, Then who complains when a LGS goes out of business. Doesnt matter too much here in the PR of MD since we cant buy lowers anyhow.

Since when? I bought one last weekend. Paid the man, filled out the form, survived the NICS check, out the door. You can own all the (legally bought) lowers you want. Where it gets squirrely is the strict limitations we have on the configuration of the finished build- H-bars only, minimum overall length that precludes most "shorties", etc. Go up to Hendershot's in Hagerstown and peruse enough Maryland-legal AR-stuff to gladden the heart of any AR aficionado. I'm having a ball specing-out what is my first AR build. I had no idea, having assumed that AR ownership is a Byzantian-like process in our state. Not true. (For the record, going with 20" barrel, flat top receiver, and a mix of detachable iron sights, detachable carry handle, and optics. Would I want a shorty tactical carbine? Neat as they are, I don't see my arthritic 63 year old butt doing any "running and gunning" ever again, so a 20" musket will serve me fine!)

Looking at Andersons lowers at Aim Surplus. They will not ship to our STATE. A lot of online / MO refuse to ship to MD.

I asked my dealer if they could do a transfer for me or could they beat AIM's and Primary Arms price on Anderson lowers. I came home yesterday with two more lowers. Now I need LPK's, uppers, and BCG's......

Some places on the East coast should really, though its a shame, still be thankful they can own an AR at all.

Its a pain finding deals on complete lowers with a non-adjustable stock and a REAL pain in the ass finding crowned (non threaded) barrels on sale.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

If you want to get your own FFL it costs you $100 then you can give away your time. It gets old fast dealing with people who want everything at cost. The last time I asked a simple question of a law office I got a bill for $160. Why should a gun dealer work for free?

They shouldn't, but some folks want to limit their wage, and at teh same time others are pushnig for a higher minimum wage....
Its nuts.
I still love it though, I use who works for me. And they make money and i"m happy with them making money.
I used to have folks want to pay me the exact invoice... LOL

I had a "friend" that wanted a Glock at cost and got upset when he found out what the shipping would cost and the sales tax. How fing cheap can you get?

You folks who think that Latisha Burgerflipper needs $15.00/hr. Why don't we also pay "The tip of the Spear" at least that? We have PFC/lance Coolly (E-3) walking point in "Indian Country" for a wage that qualifies him for food stamps. I know that this is a wee off topic, but every time some one brings up the $15.00 wage, it rips me a new one. Favor Center

I agree with that TOTALLY. The 15 min is total BS.
What we pay our troops is total BS too.
Although a buddy bought a boat off a combat medic, that is headed back across and the medic told my buddy he'd make 160K in the next year.
That sounds awful high to me. I mean as in can't be correct.

"The typical US Army Combat Medic salary is $38,826. Combat Medic salaries at US Army can range from $21,000-$68,072. This estimate is based upon 26 US Army Combat Medic salary reports provided by employees." (all stateside)
Combat pay $225/ month, tax free
"Military members with dependents also receive Family Separation Allowance (FSA) of $250.00 per month, anytime they are away from their families (due to military orders) for 30 days or longer.
Finally, members in a combat zone are authorized to to deposit up to $10,000 (per year) of their pay and allowances into a special savings account, that pays a guaranteed 10 percent interest per year."
Still a long way from $150K
