Ended up with a Marlin 336 in .35rem , pre-safety gun that looks newish.
Has synthetic stocks on it. Has a ghost ring rear aperture on it, and a post style front. looks to have been fired little.
kinda been browsing around at the various custom lever gun builders such as Wild West Guns, Grilly Custom Guns, Clements, and a few others.
anyone here customized/modified stock your as-issued lever guns to make it into a hunting pkg suited to your needs? What sorta mods/changes did you do, and what would you do differently (if anything).
Pix, if you got 'em...

Yup...looks just like that one, sights and all. Yours a 30/30, or a .35?

LOP of the stock feels a tad short for me, i pulled the plastic plate off there to find a recoil pad that will add an inch or so. will likely have the whole thing cerakoted in the next week or so....kinda digging this color combo on the metal of this one i saw online: have no interest in the scooped out stock with shell holder, or the tactical rail on the forend, but i do like the cerakote.

That's better. I need to find a 'nice' 1899 in 30/30. Mine is a 99F

I sent a Guide Gun to Lew @Grizzly Custom for his Brush Hawg package. I love it and wouldn't change a thing.

I did a nice custom stainless Puma '92 in 454 Casull as a companion gun to my FA 454. I sent it off for custom work by http://stevesgunz.com/I don't shoot it as much as I would like and and I think it will go down the road soon. Here is the list of work: Action & trigger job XS receiver sight SS ¾ big loop Tu-tone bead blast premium recoil pads Glass bedding Sling swivels studs custom flush safety plug Stainless mag follower Red HIVIZ sight silver slot blank

FyrepowrX, Have you considered a long eye relief scope? I have a pre safety Marlin Glenfield 30-30. I put an extended rail on it from XS Sights and then mounted a 2X Burris pistol scope on it. I used Leupold Quick detach mounts which enables me to use the Lyman reciever sight I have on the rifle. You already have the Ghost Ring sights so you are already half way there. You can do this your self without having to send the rifle off some place and have to pay for custom work.

The best guy to do classy good looking work on lever guns is Doug Turnbull. Nobody better.
