I guess those were the ones. I was thinking someone had run one through the ringer. Itching for 1:8 and I think a new tube is the better way to get there

I picked one up about a year ago. McSwirly and black graphite Cerakote later... Shoots 130 NABs over H4831 under an inch. .75" often enough.

Have you considered a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor for $340?

Being well off the lands may not cause any practical harm. I've loaded some 168 VLD's for a friend's 308 and they shot sub-moa despite jumping about 1/8 inch.

Have you considered a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor for $340? Not really. Its probably a nice rig, especially for the price. I keep jimmy phuqqing myself into not getting exactly what I want. The 700 SPS aint it either. I'm going to de-Faux a perfectly good Faux and 1:8 Faux SAUM Ti it in a McSwirly and a SWFA 6MQ to shoot 143 ELD-X's At least I think I am......

Sonora has one and we've smoked a few prairie dogs with it. It seemed fairly accurate with a stock load of 44gr 4350 and a 123 Amax at mag length. It got a recent facelift... haven't shot it since. We'll run it through the ringer one of these days.
A properly throated 1-8" .260 is definitely good ju-ju..... 123s at 2900 hit schitt way harder than they should.... I think 'stick could even love one....

I have no idea was "jimmy phugging" is, but it doesn't sound pleasant. If you want to maximize the accuracy potential, wouldn't an after-market barrel give you better odds of success? A problem that I have found with inexpensive loaners is that they can easily become the foundation for an expensive "stone soup" parts gun, something that I've found myself having done more than once.

You my friend, have just described jimmy phuqqing. Waste a dollar saving a nickel or settling for something. The "SAUM Ti" reference was regarding contour. Not an actual take off barrel.
Sounds like my M70 that I just put in its 6th stock.
Anyhoo....

I think that I may own what must be among the most expensive and least valuable custom Swedish Mauser known to man, a classic "stone soup" build.
