The gun is a Ruger African 20" stainless barrel syn. stock I just got from gallery of guns, before this I thought all Hawkeye African .375 Ruger wore Wood stocks but not the case with this release.

My first thought was to use a FX-II 6x36mm LR but now think the VX-2 2-7x33mm LR would be a good fit. Sure the .375 Ruger is over kill but it will make a classic Gun Looney pig gun until I get a chance to hunt Africa, plus turned down to 2x with it's 20" barrel should work nicely in the brush area's I pig hunt.

Thoughts?

That would probably work.

I'd rather have that scope with a yardage turret, CDS, set up for my favorite load. To me, that's easier.

But, it depends on what you're comfortable with. Some like MOA's, others dots or ranging reticles.

Different strokes, as they say...

It's light, compact with good ER.

The new VX-2 has very good glass, pretty close to the VX-3 IMO.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a FX-II 3-6x36mm? I thought all the FX scopes were fixed power.

FX series is fixed. I think he meant 6x36.

The FX-3 6X series is 6x42, 6x36 is an older series, FX-II.

The 6x36 has a longer tube, the 6x42 has a shorter tube, LA mounting a bit more of a challenge, especially if you like your scope mounted back a bit.

Longer tube and more compact size favors the 6x36. On a SA rifle, I'd probably go 6x42, newer scope, reportedly better glass coatings.

This. I have a 1.5-5 VX 3 for my 375 Ruger but VX 2 is fine.

I have a VX-2 2-7x Leupold on my Ruger stainless and grey laminate hawkeye with 20' barrel in 375 Ruger. Great combination.

I had a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36mm Boone & Crockett reticle on my 375 Ruger Guide Gun. The Boone & Crockett reticle was too busy in my eyes for the 375 Ruger so I switched to a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36mm duplex reticle. I use low Alaskan Arms quick detach rings. I sighted the scope in at 200yds with a 300gr. Nosler Accubond load traveling 2590fps zero and have the open sights at 50yds. Rifle comes right up and on target with either scope or open sights.

I really like the 30mm VX-6 1-6 scopes, though my 375R carries a vx-3 1.5-5 because I have it. Got to like the huge FOV on 1X with the 30mm tube!

I put an old Vari x II 2x7 on a Mosin Nagant scope base I carved out of an AR15 riser.

It vibrated up and down in recoil [like a diving board] and shook the reticule lose.

I sent to to Leupold, and they sent me a new VX 1 2x7.

I put a Stoney Point turret on top of that scope.

I put the scope on a 270 with very light stock and barrel.
In 2008 and 2009 I shot 9 deer mostly around 400 yards, but a couple at 500 yards.

Great scope but you don't need the LR feature.

Sorta big, but a fine scope and very fast at 1X with great FOV as noted. This one has the Fire Dot and #4. With the Fire Dot, I think the Duplex is all you need, the #4 reticle gets a bit thick at LR. Maybe not the perfect LR scope, but at 6X with duplex and CDS, probably not that bad.

I too wouldn't mess with the LR or Ballistic reticle. If you sight in at 200yds. highest point would be around 2.3" high at 100yds. and around 9.3" low at 300yds. with a 300gr. Accubond bullet wit 0.485 BC. whatever load you use just chronograph average speed then put it and BC of bullet into Hornady ballistic calculator. Then print off and tape it to your butt stock.

I'm using what Biebs is using on my Alaskan. It has a lot of eye relief!
