In the past December and January I had cataract surgery done. During the surgery they placed lens in my eyes for distance and I was able to eliminate the glasses I had been wearing for about the last 60 years. Now warm weather is here I have started rifle shooting again.

I find my ability to shoot consistent small groups has disappeared. Has anyone else had this surgery and experienced this kind of negative affect on their shooting?

I should point out that my vision is now 20/20 or better in both eyes.

I had it only in one eye, my left.. I am right eye dominant for shooting...and shoot right handed...

it cleared up problems for my left eye, but it sure needs strong reading glasses to read on that side... stronger than the right eye needs...

Jim,

Do you use scopes or irons? You may need a corrective lens for intermediate distances. Your optometrist should have the answer.

Then it isn't because of the surgery.

Refocus your scopes?

All my rifles are scoped. Re-focusing helped a little bit but didn't resolve the problem. I was shooting again yesterday. I removed my non-prescription shooting glasses and reverted to my new bifocals and this helped a little.

I shouldn't complain. At nearly 80 I am still shooting more than good enough for hunting purposes even if I'm not completely happy with my play groups.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Jim
