OK,

Over the last several years I've upgraded my photo kit. I started with lenses. Next I acquired a Canon 7D Mk II, with which I am extremely happy. I've acquired a number of lenses,of which all but two that will work with the full frame Canon bodies.

The two lenses that I use the most are a Canon 17-40 1:4 L USM

and a Tamron 150-600. (the three below are "hand-held")

Those are my "workhorses".

One other lens that I particularly enjoyed but my youngest son appropriated was the Canon 70-200.

At the time that I decided on the 7D MK2 I was in a quandary as to whether to get it or the 5D MK 3. I'm thinking of upgrading my kit once more.

I read excellent reviews on the new 70-200 2.8 IS 2, and that lens would bridge the gap in my kit as far as lenses.

So my question to you guys.

Would you invest in the lens, or at this late date in the 5D mk 3 in order to have a "full frame" body.

Your thoughts?

GWB

As good as the high ISO performance of full frame cameras is these days, I would skip the 2.8 aperture and buy the excellent Canon 70-200 f/4. Use the money saved for a rockin' Really Right Stuff carbon fiber tripod setup.

I went with the Mkiii. The high iso performance alone makes it worth it.

Go with the full frame body as long as your lenses are not cropped.

I have both cameras the 7Dii and the 5Diii, the 5D will give you better resolution with those lenses you have and less noise at higher ISOs. I love mine. With the rebates and price of the 5Diii I have seen at Camera Land, it is fantastic. That being said, if you are disappointed with the resolution of the 7Dii, it is a tough call. Me personally I saw a difference and went with a new body.

Great photography is not about being in the right place at the right time, it is about putting yourself in the right place at the right time.

I am not at all disappointed. I luv the 7d as compared to the T2i I was shooting.
I've yet to master many of the concepts and options but IMHO the 7d has much improved the quality of my photos.

One can't help but wonder if he can do better. I'm only in a competition with myself as I don't do any pro work. However there' always that thought in the back of one's mind, could I do better with better/different equipment?

The 7d2 has the newer digic 6 processor, while the 5d has the older digic 5. The mk3 has been out a while and I hear rumors of the mk4. I will definitely keep the 7d. I've just never had a full frame DSLR. So there's alway's that little tickle. LOL
