Interesting!

I did not know about it, but I will have to check it out.

When I was a child in Toledo, OH I lucked into a small nearby school library (Ottawa Hills) with a big collection of adventure, hunting and exploration books, one of which was J. Frank Dobie's Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver. I have not read it for over 60 years, but it made an impression. I will have to chase down a copy of that, too!

Used to drive by Dobie's old house on 24th street everyday going to work. Knew an old geezer when I was a kid who was serious about the old Jim Bowie's alleged silver mine up around Menard!!!

He claimed that his camp was "visited" one evening by the ghosts of Spanish Conquistadors who told him where to look!!! LOL! I suppose they spoke English! Or he got in the Evan Williams a bit too deep! wink.

That old man was always on the hunt for lost gold!!

I met Mr. Dobie socially a coupe of times when I was an undergrad at UT, thanks to Dr. Wilson Hudson who introduced us. He did not like to talk about either Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver or Coronado's Children as people had pestered him nearly to death for more details about the circumstances and locations of the lost mines about which he wrote.

Dr. Hudson told me that in the late 1930s and early 1940s a caravan of people would form up and follow him whenever he left town on a trip. They hoped that he might have finally figured out where one or more of the forgotten treasures were, and they wanted to be in on the find.

OH CRAP. Well it was fun while it lasted. We left our new cap trailer at the farm as we will begging back in a week. They had a little storm and our daughter sent up pictures. We will be talking to our insurance agent on Monday and see what he says. This does not mean we will not make it but it may not be what we planned.

OH No Scott.

I hate it when things like this happen.

Sure hope that the insurance can make a quick resolve and that you're happy with the results.

Keep us updated.

Scott - I am very sorry about that - knowing that you were enjoying the trailer so much and looking forward to using it down here in July. But, maybe not as bad as it looks - as we've been through some similar events. Those skylights are screwed on so maybe replacement units, good sealer and some effort will get it tight again. Those folded screen items under the skylights - can't see what they are or do - but maybe not too difficult to replace if the mfr. or a big supplier has them.

The bigger issue may be water damage inside. Did you suffer that? And PLEASE tell me that vertical limb stump has not pierced the roof. If it has, that will take a big cork stopper.

You are a resourceful guy - you will shape this thing up and be on the road.

Yep, it went through and left a nice hole. Not much water at least that is what we were told. We are headed up Sunday or Monday a weed from now. May now more then.

As much as I want to make it this year, I don't think Michael and I will be there. He has a scout camp at Camp Geronimo the week of 7-2 until 7-9 and with me being out of work due to my shoulder surgery we could barely afford that trip for him. I am back to work as of a couple weeks ago but playing catch up with the bills. Maybe next year, hopefully.

Enjoy the gathering and stay cool. Take a lot of pictures and post them up.

Hope the shoulder heals quickly! We will miss you, and let Michael know that he will be missed as well. Well, maybe not in the shooting contests...

I picked her some cucumbers out of the garden this past week, and she was able to get two batches of freezer pickles put up by herself!

Report to follow!!

Can't wait to try it. Yum Yum

Hi Thomas - the forest still LOOKS good above ground, but the understory is becoming more dry and brown/brittle by the day. As with all of the SW, our day temps have been well above normal, which is a good rain factor, but no rain since mid-May, and none in sight.

We need some disturbance down southwest on the Mex coast/gulf or southeast in the G of M to send some moisture sweeping this way. We've had a few big puffy clouds yesterday and today, but no heavy darker stuff seems to be brewing. Unless ours circles up around from the G of M, you guys down there will know it is coming before we do.

Hot and still tonight. Old-timers down here say that it has to get this way for ten days to two weeks before the monsoon rains kick in. That puts it at just about July 4th, and that is just about when they usually do start down here. KOB TV predicted a chance of showers for the Quemado area tomorrow--hope they're right!

Always figured the monsoon rains started around the 4th of July.
