If you had to choose between the two? Which would you choose and why. Looks like my options for 250 Savage brass.

Can't comment on Jamison, but the Hornady brass that I have tried (7mm Rem Mag, .30-06 and 9.3x62) has been very uneven.

I have not seen Jamison Brass. Is this something new?

They make good brass, but it hasn't been 'great' brass. They're service had been great on a run of brittle 357 max brass in some of their loaded ammo. Since then, I've had no more splitting or consistency issues, with the last 2-300 cases I've used. I'm using it pretty much interchangeably with Remington max brass, running loads WAY out there. That's the only caliber/loading I've done w/Jamison. I wouldn't hesitate to at least try it in other stuff.

Add: in my instance, they replaced all the boxes of loaded rounds I had purchased, including the fired ones, with brand new from a new lot. This included picking up the shipping heartburn both ways.

I lean towards the Jamison stuff. Seems to hold up better than Hornady. Got a lot of Jamison 357 Mag. brass that is really keeping me happy. Have heard that Jamison had a few issues with some brass but can't recall what chambering. The stuff I have is trouble free; maybe I got lucky and got the right lot numbers.

Dennis,

I've had very good luck with Hornady brass, ever since the 6.5 Creedmoor came out. Dunno whether they've made all of it themselves, but unlike mudhen the stuff I've purchased has been very good. Maybe I've been lucky--now have around 1000 rounds of .17 Hornet, which some complained about in the first year or so, but have not had any problems with mine. Also have tried it in others cartridges from the .243 to .300 Weatherby, and it's all been good, including brass from factory ammo, including the .17 Hornet, .270 Winchester, 7mm-08 and .308.

By "good" I mean reasonably uniform in weight and case-neck thickness. The last 50-round batch of .243 I opened, for instance, had necks that varied only slightly more than .001" in thickness, and weighed within a couple grains of each other. Seems to hold up over several loadings just fine.

Haven't tried enough Jamison brass to make any firm statements yet, but so far all has been good too. Just haven't used nearly as much as Hornady.

Dennis,

I have never used Jamison brass, but I have no complaints about Hornady brass at all.

I have been shooting quite a bit of it in .223 lately and it is very consistent.

I have shot some of their match brass and it is some great stuff.

OK, I guess either one will do then. Just need to get my son some more 250 Savage ammo loaded so he can keep hunting!

Dennis,

I have used Jamison (2012 vintage) and Hornady brass in my 416 Rem and the Hornady brass was hands down better. The Jamison had very hard necks as though they had not been annealed. This was back when Jamison was running the business and having financial "troubles' IIRC. I also use Hornady brass in my 375 H&H and it has also been very good.
