Not sure which McMillan to order. It will be going on a Rem 700 sa .260 varmint contour 16.5" barrel with 6" can.

I am set on the classic or game scout in adl.

Standard fill with urban spectre or woodland spectre anyone have one of these colors?

Or

Edge fill olive with black speckles or gap transition.

Don't go edge. The balance will be way off, with a barrel that heavy + can.

Have you had a varmint contour in a classic before? I know it will fit but not for me at all. I like a little more stock around the barrel than that. Like mentioned already no way on edge fill.

Never had a classic with a varmint contour. The game warden might be best. I do want to keep it as compact as possible. Any pics of urban spectre kind of leaning that way.

A Classic forend is a stretch to fit in a RV, a #5 is about the max that looks good.

The GW has a HTG forend, that's only .075" +/- wider, but makes it a great fit for a RV w/o going any beefier, and staying somewhat compact.

A HTG would be a bit more "compact" overall, but most seem to complain about an HTG's comb being too low. They don't bother me at all.

I just happen to have a GW in Urban Spectre that shipped out last Friday........

Did you get an adjustable GW?

As you suggest, the biggest issue I have with the HTG is the low comb. I solved that problem by installing the KMV Loggerhead adjustable hardware on one of mine. Others will get the same mod as time and funds permit.

FWIW, I am considering a XLR chassis which with the right butt stock would offer all the adjustment one should need.

Nope, just a regular butt. Evidently I hold my head more upright, and am more comfortable with a lower cheek contact, so the HTG is not an issue.

Plus, I very seldom shoot prone....too damn hard to get back up.... cry

A5 is where you wanna be. A VS plugs the landing on a Classic and is no good there,as I've done it. Hint.

19.5" Benchmark 1-7.75" MTU in an A5. It'd be tough not to DBM the 260,so as too eek extry COAL for upper echelon BC's.

20" Mike Rock 1-8" SAAMI 22-250 VS contour in an A5.

[Linked Image]

26" VS contoured 1-10" PN 300 Super in a heavy filled Classic.

[Linked Image]

20" 308LTR in a HTG. Never could like the M40A1/HTG and still have too many of the fhuqking things.

[Linked Image]

My best HTG is the one I added a comb and palm swell to,along with a 21" 308Win VSSF chopped spout.

[Linked Image]

The Rem Hunter(top) do nice things in a VS contour and is a better mousetrap than the A3-Sporter in VS(bottom) or GS.

[Linked Image]

I don't EDGE.

Prolly shoot more than a coupla more patterns than that, knowing me...but I'll save some for later.(grin)

Fixed A5 wearing 1" Decelerator for THE win and I've prolly got a few..............

If wanting compact, I really like the Remington Varmint pattern. It's perfect for a 22" or shorter barrel. Ergos are fantastic for me, as it is Sako-ish.

aalf,

Always good to see you Posting.

I reckon there's numerous ways to factor Compactitude...though none of mine would incorporate a contour of the sizing slated.(grin) The dimension from butt to crown will vary nil, assuming a like LOP and fixed furniture, when extrapolating one pattern to another. Given the contour hurdle,I'm quick to weigh balance/handling,over any/all "compact" notions. The A5 has no equal there and is certainly THE pick of the litter.

Were the query "How do I arrange a compact 16.5" threaded 260?"...the impetus would differ muchly. One could easily arrange a Chassis Bitch and reap the inherent goodliness of AICS DBM footprint sanctity, along with viable means to skew Compactitude, ala the incorporation of an M4-esque butt and/or folder.

It might could be akin to this.(grin)

In order to arrange this.

I'd personally not wish to exceed a #3 contour there,if only because I've driven them greater than...................

JP,

The Sako Varmint has long been a Good 'Un.

Shorter than 22" and in MTU-esque contour. It's betwixt the A5 and Classic(s).

[Linked Image]

While that pattern is a PEACH for flying that much contour(VS and greater),it is assuredly no compact.

For handy/dandy,one is farrrrrrrrr better off to drop contour and loose stock mass to boot and then lean heavily on a Classic.

18" Mike Rock 1-7" 223AI in Mag Sporter.

[Linked Image]

Now for svelte...the Montucky STEALS the fhuqking show. I've a few that are prolly even compact.(grin)

18.5" Bart' 270,20" Brux 6BR,21" Mike Rock 223AI,22.25" Brux 6-06,coupla 24" PN 7 Whizzums and an OEM 24" 7 Whizzum.

[Linked Image]

Easy for me to say...I got 'em all.............(grin)

Thanks......

I finally got rid of my last A-5. I'll take a Marksman every day and twice on Sunday.
Same front end, but smoothed over there back.

Mulling things over, thinkin' a #5 is minimum spec for a can, stickin' with the svelte consideration, I'll ding the bell with ya on the Classic and #5 marriage. Maybe a flute job if you're feeling flush.

But then I'd schitcan the 260, punt the DM, and go 47......

Yeah went big for the can on this one. Could have gotten away with the bart #3 Maybe next one. Tried a chassis and it was meh so I'm going back to a stock. Need a different scope at some point too.
