I have a mini-30, I have loaded for it in the past, like 20yrs ago. But it has been sitting in the back of the gun safe for years. It has a .308 bore, I know the bulk stuff has .310-311 bores. I want to purchase some bulk ammo for it without reloading. Already reloading for to many now. I just want to prepare for the Clinton era I'm afraid is coming. I have read where the mini has a long throat where you should be able to shoot this over size dia. ammo. Is it possible and safe or is there a place to buy bulk ammo (1000)in .308.

Appreciate the help,
Doug

Yes it's completely safe to shoot in a Mini-30 with a .308 bore.

And if thinking rainy day... I'd be stocking up on reloadable brass and components to do it 5-10 times on the amount of cases....

If it gets nasty it might stay that way a LONG time...

This sounds like spending 1000's of dollars in ammo for an out of spec gun. I would sell the old mini30 and buy a new model with proper barrel. Or investigate the cost or getting a proper barrel.

I am not worried about ammo bans. I do worry the libs are going to figure out the evil features nonsense does not work and push through a serious ban on all semi autos similar to how full auto is handled today. As long as hunting bolt action guns remain in use the ammo should be available as well. I guess the crappy import fmj stuff could get hit. No more a loss than chinese import ban. A loss, just not enough to cry about. A real ban (all semi's), that would hit home hard.

Doug the mini 30 as a rainy day gun is arguably one of the worst for that intended purpose.

surface rust in your chamber could convert your rifle into a club, break a firing pin, or try to use aftermarket magazines.... Sometimes life is not a day at the range where you get to come home and clean your gun after firing 40 rounds in it, Katrina showed many of us what things could be like in the absence of air conditioning.

My honest and best advice to you would be to sell it and buy an Arsenal AK or a Colt 6920. I know the Colts will run to close to 1000 rounds with no major cleaning, however if I wanted a bang stick Guaranteeeeed to work even in the middle of a hurricane I would get an Arsenal AK and buy 10 good magazines, the cases, bullets, powder and a few thousand rounds of practice ammunition.

Frankly in the middle or after a hurricane and marooned in Louisiana watching my neighbors car float away I would rather have a 1-9 twisted Chrome lined Bushmaster or RRA over any Mini that has ever been made or had been tricked out with any amount of money invested in it to get it too shoot. This the educated experience of a boy who grew up in Florida on the water, lives in Georgia hunts in the rain, and has experience with 5 different Ruger Mini's.

Then I'd buy the bulk ammo and not worry about it.

Thats good to know, buy some ammo and rock on. Don't even need that much if it gets really dirty, you either win or loose issues and if you loose, matters not, if you win, you have more guns and ammo...
