I saw this on the side of the road For Sale.
36,000 miles 4 cylinder engine tires look good all six of them.
It said on the sign that the engine made a funny sound? 36,000 miles seems like it is just barely broken in to me.

My dad had one about that age. The motor threw a rod with about the same mileage on it. Constant sitting isn't good for any engine.

It was tremendously underpowered also, a real pain to drive. You could only get it over 60 when going downhill and the throttle was pretty much on the floor whenever you drove it. A hill would drag it down to 40 pretty quickly.

I'm a huge toyota fan but I didn't like that thing at all.

Maybe I should just get a trailer to pull behind my F150?

My parents had one somewhere in that time period. They only kept it for 1 summer. Too small, to little power, just not comfortable.

The 22R engine in that time frame had an issue with the valve guides failing and the valves taking out the piston and the head. My wife had a Celica and I owned a FourRunner and hers had the problem, ended up replacing the motor. Had a bit over 36,000 miles and Toyota refused to own up to it. Funny thing is the parts to fix it (before we found out the block was cracked ) were all back ordered but the problem never generated a recall. As a result I dumped my truck, same engine and I wasn't going to chance it.
