MOSAF and I arrived in PE May 7, we hunted May 8-May 15 in the Great Karoo Basin. May 16-19 we relaxed in PE. We arrived home yesterday.

Notes: We used Emirates from Seattle to Johannesburg, no problems, good service. Dubai airport was similar to the Mall of America, maybe more upscale...

We used Afton House as a meet and greet, and rifle importation service. Worth every penny...Thanks Mr. X

Two Water Safaris, Brian and Sheryl Seady. Our second trip to Africa both times with Brian and Sheryl, we're rebooked for next May with Two Waters.

Rifles were Tikka T3's in 7-08 and 223 (used for two Springbok), ammo used 139 grain GMX Super Performance, and handloaded 223 with 55 gr. TSX and TAC.

Our stay in PE at the end of the trip was with 5th Ave. Beach House. We will use them again next year if they are available.

Game taken (in order): Warthog, Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Red Hartebeast, and two Springbok (one non-trophy eater).

Our first three days were spent in "Jurassic Park", an extremely well managed, wild and large reserve (measured in hecacres and I think I heard 35,000). It has buff, elephant, white rhino, and the occasional leopard according to the manager. We did have a rather uncomfortable encounter one morning with a bull rhino we surprised on foot, we had asshholes and tea kettles flying in different directions...

The first two days we had gale force winds literally levitating the bakkie and spitting rain, very little game movement. We shot a warthog on morning 2, more of a drive-by than a stalk, but I was happy to have it in hand:

Day 3 the weather broke, and we spotted several Kudu bulls, before settling on this one. I wanted one with deeper curls than my first one. Spotted him at around 600 yards (metres per Brian), Brian made one hell of a stalk through the thorns to get me within 150 or so. My shooting was adequate:

Within an hour we found my Wildebeest, another good stalk. Unfortunately my shooting this time was less than adequate, and I found out just how tenacious these [bleep] can be. A money shot with a more realistic shot:

We headed back to the cabin for lunch, packed, and then took the wives for a quick game drive before heading back to Kleeinport and the lodge.

Day 4 was a day of exploration for Brian and I as we checked properties for his future hunts. A very fun day seeing new ground and meeting local Afrikaaners.

Day 5 we were after Zebra, on another property within 30 min. from the lodge. MOSAF joined us this day and our stalk through the thorns, without nary a complaint or gripe. She was present for my shot, a perfect shoulder shot to the triangle. The mare didn't realize my perfection, after about an hour of tracking and 350 hellish yards through the thorns, we found her. My wife seemed transfixed through the tracking, I noticed a strange gleam in her eye. Here's the mare:

Day 6 and 7 spent pursuing a Hartebeest,(jet lag is setting in...). You guessed it another memorable spot and stalk through the thorns:

Day 8 Springbok fun, reminds me of Pronghorn hunting. Really really impressed by those 55 gr. TSX's. Ribs for lunch that day:

I've hunted with Brian before and it's a fine hunt. I'm booked with two waters again this fall in September. I heartily recommend Two Waters Safaris. They run a good show and are excellent hosts. Two thumbs up here.

Vapodog,
I omitted a portion of our story...if your after Cape Kudu, talk to Brian about the property where my Hartebeest was taken...I choked badly on once in a lifetime Kudu. I'll see that animal in my minds eye forever..."frikken chip and a putt"
