Wish I had some pics of this one when I bought it 3-4yrs ago. Rough is an understatement. Blueing was over half gone, the thick finish on the stock was about half gone too. However, I noticed it had very nice figure in the wood and I couldn't see any deep scars in the wood. It originally had a 4x BSA with see-through rings. It languished in one of the local pawn shops for a while marked at $250. Finally the manager told me I could have it for $200 OTD since nobody wanted a 35Rem, only 30-30s. I'd been wanting to try my hand at refinishing a stock, and I figured I couldn't hurt this one much.

Lots of elbow grease later I got all the old finish off and all the minor scuffs removed. Many coats of Watco Danish Oil later, it really is a nice looking stock. I then decided to take the BA to a local smith who is fantastic at re-blueing older guns and making them look original. At that point it had a Weaver style rail mount with some cheap rings and a Vortex 2-7x32 up top. Serviceable, but I've never been wild about those rails and I've always thought a straight tube scope looked better on a lever gun. Recently bought a Burris base here in the classifieds and got a good deal a while back on a Monarch UCC 1.5-4.5x20.

Finally got it all put together and ready to use this fall. I bought some LeverEvolution to work up some loads. I've hunted with it sporadically over the years but never bloodied it. I plan to change that this year.

I figure I'm about $500 in the whole setup, plus a good bit of my time and effort, but I think it's turned out to be worth it.

Nice work putting new life into an old gun, still one of my favorite winter pastimes. Next time, try rust bluing yourself. Not that hard and gives a nice finish for minimal cost.

Nice choice on the optics as well.

That turned out nice. I've killed quite a few critters with my old 336 in 30-30. Carried a 336 in 35 several times as well, just never broke it in.

DEWD very very cool.

I've always wanted one of those 35s. To be able to have one that you can invest in is really awesome.

Nice work!

Great save! Nothing like giving an old, neglected rifle a new lease on life and a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem is a worthy subject.

Now you can be an "all-Marlin" deer hunter, shoot 'em close with the 336/35 or snipe 'em long with the XS7/22-250.

Nice! I've thought about doing the same to my old Marlin, just never have gotten around to it. Mine does have the same scope though.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I am rather proud of the way it turned out.

I've got an old beater BPS 12ga that I'm working on at the moment. It has some pretty interesting wood also. That thick shiny finish Browning put on these is a PITA to remove!

Lots of compliments to ya !!

Always liked the looks and quality of the 336 over a 94.

Fantastic job.

You did a wonderful job bringing the ole' Marlin 336 back to life. Most pawn shop marlin 336's were meat guns or bouncing behind the seat truck guns are your's was.

I hope it shoots as good as it looks.

DUUUDE, Great job. Man that looks nice. I'm a real fan of the old 35 rems. Great guns. But that one is special.

nice ole Marlin...good restore job.....

did ya change the hammer/lever springs....?

I've found even the older Marlins benefit from a lighter hammer spring
