Recently picked up a model 1893 Winchester. It has a 20 inch barrel, which I assumed had been cut down from 30 inches. I bought it cheap because I just wanted it for over the bar in the basement.

Imagine my surprise when a little research shows this to be one of 644 factory made 1893 riot guns with factory 20 inch barrel.
The factory letter confirms that this gun left the factory in this configuration.

The gun is in 70-80% original condition. Not much info out there on these. Would anyone have an idea on value?

Nice work.. I don't think I ever saw a 93.. Nash Buckingham shot a 93 for many years, then I think he had the action replaced with a 97.. Why I am not sure.. But that was the first I had hear of the model 93 shotgun.. Good find..

From what I understand, once the 97 come out, Winchester offered to replace every 93 with a 97. The 93 worked well with black powder, but had issues with smokeless. Not too many 93s left out there.

That is an ultra cool find. Everyone and their brother has a 97 or a 12.

I'd venture to guess that gun is valued in the thousands of $'s....

According to the Red Book, the gun in the condition you describe is worth between $6000 and $7200. A pretty rare gun indeed.

So, I guess it was a pretty good $297 investment! smile
