I'm considering buying this VX-3 Leupold.

What other scopes would you recommend that are comparable in quality and price?

I should add that the primary purpose is for use on a 300 Win Mag hunting rifle.

Your link didn't work.

There are great prices on the new VX-3i versions still

The 170709 30mm 4.5-14x50 can be had for $511 shipped

or the CDS version can be found for $550 shipped.

I put a 4.5-14x40 CDS 30mm VX-3i on my 300 Win. Mag. and it works perfectly.

Then there will be naysayers who say that Leupolds don't track, or that nothing is good unless it says Nightforce. I go with what works, what my experience has shown, and what company provides flawless customer service, if ever needed.

Bushnell Elite 4500 or another Elite series may fit your needs. Most of the 4500 line is 40mm unless you feel the need for a 50mm on a hunting rifle. I kinda like 40mm, and 44mm at the most.

From side by side comparisons I would go with the 4500.

I've had and sold a couple of the VX-3 4.5-14s. Both 40 and 50mm; 1" and 30mm tubes. Regardless, they all seemed a little lacking when it came to eye box. OThers I've talked to flet the same.

If I may, consider this . . . Bushnell 6500

My experience too.

My favorite scope in that magnification range is the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50. They can still be found on the used market and I think Meopta is now selling the same scope with their name on it.

Anyone care to share a place that has excellent prices on Leupolds?

I like the Leupold fx3 scopes. Lighter weight and 6x is plenty of magnification for reasonable shooting distances.
