Tough to find 250 barrels, but 300 Savage barrels come up regularly on ebay and such. What year and model?

Welcome to the campfire, btw!

Not high pressure centerfires. Old black powder rounds maybe, some rimfire certainly.

You just need to have a new barrel of your choice of manufacture fitted and chambered.

Rory, not arguing, but I an had an 1896 Mauser Broomhandle, model 30 commercial, in 30 Mauser that was sleeved. That's a pretty hot bottle neck case. I only ran a couple boxes of shells through it, but it shot very well. That's not saying the next guy that wound up with it didn't have the sleeve come flying out. Anyway, I've often thought of asking the same question on some of the old 32-40's and 38-55's. So you answered my question too, Joe.

Savage 99 gunsmiths SUCK! If you can find one that even knows what a 99 is, he'll take 10 years to screw a new barrel on. Most guys nowadays that call themselves gunsmiths screw together Ar's for a living. I am having the worst luck.

If it will make you feel better, my hunting buddy will build you an AR10 in 22HP, Joe.

That .30 Mauser didn't generate nearly the the pressure of a .250-3000, Joe.

An AR-10 in .22HP? Just go with an AR .223- pretty nearly the same performance.

As for re-barreling a 99, having a new barrel threaded, fitted, chambered would probably run more than sending the gun out and having it re-bored to a larger caliber.

Have you shot this rifle? Sometimes nasty bores can surprise you with how well they shoot.

There have been gunsmiths that would resleeve 30-30 class cartridges, but last I was able to find out they all had stopped. If you come up with the name of somebody still doing it, share the name here please.

Gunsmith's SUCK! They're worse than realtors, and that's saying something!

Perhaps this is a way to go if rebarreling is a cul-de-sac. Rebore to .277 cal.

I'm not sure if the specs are the same, but I think they are, the 270-300 or 270 Savage, is the 270 Titus. I believe Bliss Titus developed the cartridge. I know one member that hates gunsmiths that has one. I would dearly like to have one that I could document came from Titus, Joe.

JES still offers rebores on 99's, calibers and chambers are limited, but it will give the barrel you have new life

I have to cast my vote for a .300 barrel. .300 barrels are out there and you don't have to change the bolt or set yorself up for reloading a wildcat. Of course shoot it first to make sure that any of this work is even necessary.
